Have you tried the nasal cycle test? This very simple nasal breathing test can provide insight into your autonomic nervous system.

Discovering your dominant nostril at any given time, will help you understand your body’s responses better. Right nostril dominance means that your nervous system is in fight-or-flight. While left nostril dominance means it’s in rest and digest.

The test only takes a moment, and afterwards, if needed, you can attempt to override your nervous system response by using simple yoga breathing exercises. However, please note that this test may not work if you have a blocked nose or a deviated septum.

NOTE: the nasal cycle is a very real thing, observed in most mammals. The nasal cycle to autonomic nervous system connection is unique to yoga and has not been empirically confirmed. Anecdotally it works for most people.

Thanks for sharing this western science paper, however I raccomend you to use a more beneficial mudra in your breathing exercises. For nostril inversion while using right hand is highly suggested using gyan mudra in contact with ajna and the nostril.

Both are open because I always practice breathing through each one. One was more dominant in the beginning... Left was more open

Our bodies shift nostrils in a natural cycle. Even the in people who are always in fight or flight or vice versa.

It as everything else, is all a matter of perspective. I have found that I had no problems with my health until I learned about the latest health updates- no problem with my gut til I learned all about what could go wrong. Then I started to unconsciously look for any of those negative signs in me - within days, I developed the exact negative symptoms. Im truly starting to suspect - Ignorance can be BLISS!!!

Another trick is alternative breathing. Close one nostril with finger and breathe in slow and deep then hold for several counts. Then cover other nostril and exhale thoroughly. Switch to opposite and repeat for a total count of nine. This is very balancing and also cleanses sinus cavities to allow better oxygen intake. All breaths should be nasal only..not mouth.

Left nostril represents the Moon and is more open at night ant early mornings and Right nostril represents the Sun and is more open during the day.

OK, so then you figure out if you are in fight or flight, how do you then move it to rest and digest? I mean it helps knowing where you are, but how do you move?
