A healthy nervous system helps with anxiety, stress and trauma in life. How regulated is your nervous system?
But your nervous system can get stuck in activated state or shutdown state.

In therapy I use a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Systems Theory, positive psychology, and a bio-psycho-social approach to treating mental illness and other challenges we all face in life. The ideas from my videos are frequently adapted from multiple sources. Many of them come from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, especially the work of Steven Hayes, Jason Luoma, and Russ Harris. The sections on stress and the mind-body connection derive from the work of Stephen Porges (the Polyvagal theory), Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing) Francine Shapiro (EMDR), and Bessel Van Der Kolk. I also rely heavily on the work of the Arbinger institute for my overall understanding of our ability to choose our life's direction.

I am glad that I embraced yoga a couple of years ago. It has completely changed my nervous system. I grew up in a very emotionally unhealthy, angry and chaotic home where I was made to feel unwanted and unloved. This resulted in depression and anxiety. I never truly felt calm for long periods of time.

I had learnt to anticipate the worst and to protect myself from it as a kid to survive. Yoga (along with a few lifestyle changes) has tremendously benefited me and has calmed my nervous system. I never experienced the Zen I get to enjoy now. My depressive episodes have drastically reduced and my anxiety is not as frequent and problematic either. Anyone whose grown up in an unhealthy and abusive environment and feels that they are stuck with feeling broken and experiencing pain, things can improve massively for you. Don't give up hope and be kind to yourself as much as you can.

Boy do I have this! Whenever I experience a highly stressful situation the next day I feel so depressed, weepy, and anxious with rumination. I’ve had a lot of therapy and realize this is a trauma response and I need to separate myself from the feeling and ask myself what type of self care would be helpful. This usually looks like a long walk or making my bed and sticking to my routine. Nice short btw!

My ibs gets triggered any time there is even a tiny bit of stress like someone raising there voice at me. I can’t control it and it’s ruining my life. I’m trying to regulate it back to normal again 🙏

YES! Recently realized I’ve been stuck in over functioning survival mode for the last 5 years. Heading into the New Year with a second bout of burnout.

Had this happen to me at work last week. Was under a lot of pressure. When the pressure ended I was totally wiped out. I struggled to eat dinner with my family and went straight to bed. The next day and a half at work I was hardly functional. I basically did what I had to do, to get through the day. I did have a long chat with my therapist about it this week.

I work for the government in customer service and the overall tone of conversations are negative which I find draining, thus I crash after work and am dragging myself out of bed. I’m working on it but some days it’s exhausting!

This is happening to me but it's not calming down. My sympathetic system is continuously running more than parasympathetic. Learning so I can help myself.

I believe I have Fibromyalgia because of a disregulated nervous system, due to childhood trauma. I had started seeing a somatic experience therapist to help me with the physical symptoms from all of this.
We had only talked the first 4 sessions and I was like, “When are we gonna get to the exercises”??

She had me borrow a book entitled Trauma and Memory by Dr. Peter Levine. I sent a picture of the front and back of the book to my sisters because they also went through the same abuse I went through as a child. One of my sisters came back and said that Somatics were not of God. So I prayed about it and God gave me an answer. I decided not to do Somatics because I don’t want a door opened that may lead to spiritual attacks.

But now I don’t know where to go from here. 😔😢
I’ve looked into EDMR or even dance movement therapy. I’m not sure of what to do. I feel so stuck!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I love your videos, thank you! ❤️

Can you make a video about this, is depression causing weak nervous system or visa versa?

Thank you for this video. I find it very valuable. I hope motherhood is going swimmingly well for you as a new mommy of a beautiful baby girl. I have a question; when the nervous system is in disregulation and it's caused from fight or flight from cortisol and adrenaline from physical pain? Physical pain in both legs stemming from a chronic condition (severe osteoarthritis) not ever expected to improve. How do you regulate your nervous system in these circumstances? I do not want to do any medical intervention as all the options are very invasive. I also refuse to take opiates. Thank you so much in advance if you are able to address this question!

Thanks, this is something that is easier for me to work with. I think I will also try to approach it from an organ function view.

My shoulders, traps are tight. I don't emote much, laugh, sing, make daft noises like when I was a kid, voice is monotone, doesn't raise much. How can I become unrepressed?/unstifled? It's the nervous system on-guard / won't relax as I understand, I think how you explained it. What can be done?
