Absolutely 0 shot anybody is going back to work after 1 week, regardless of what type of jaw surgery. At 1 week I was still insanely swollen, bruised, and could barely speak.

Imo if u watching this having surgery soon, give yourself minimum 2.5 weeks before resuming work/school if you really need to go back asap, but take more time if you have the option. It was 5 weeks for me before I really started to feel comfortable speaking and being seen by work/classmates. 8 weeks for me before I was even allowed to start chewing soft food, several months before gym and sports resumed. Takes 6 months - 1 year for swelling to completely go away and jaw to return to full strength.

Seems very wrong to market this surgery as having a "1 week recovery". You should help people make informed decisions.

I want to undergo orthognathic surgery. My main concern is the damage to inferior aveolar nerve which causes permanent sensory loss in the chin, lips and palettes, and even the tongue.

Hi had top and bottom jaw surgery 10 years ago and wish i never had it. Still cant feel my chin and my nose is totally different now compared to what i was born with. After care is terrible, swelling didnt full go down and still couldnt things like apple and steak until at least 1 year post surgery. Nobody warns you about how much the swelling stops you eating and how depressed you get during recovery due to being hungry, pain killers etc. If i could do it all again, i would never have had this surgery. Its horrific!

I had maxilla expansion (SARPE) surgery as an older adult in July 2021 and had to stay in hospital for one week. I needed a minimum of four weeks before going back to work. It's *major surgery* and a big hit on your body in terms of recovery. I was fitted with upper braces 8 months after the surgery, and my lower braces were fitted just last month. *You will not have a normal bite (a normal occlusion) for a very long time*, as the braces needs around two to two and half or even three years to bring your upper and lower teeth into correct alignment. I'm now two years and three month post surgery, and I still can't chew food or eat normally. I also still have numbness in my upper gums, so my teeth feel like pieces of wood in my mouth. I'd think very seriously before considering SARPE or any kind of jaw surgery.

I had my bi-jaw surgery 10 days back. Can you please guide me on how I can get my sensation back in chin and below lip area of lower jaw. I can feel nothing there. Any excercise or medication recommended?

Anyone else experiencing nasal issues after their jaw surgery? It's been years, but I'm still having a hard time with breathing. Thankfully, I didn't experience any pain after recovery even though vicodin was prescribed to me.

I just had jaw surgery even though I am still super young. I can’t take medication for swelling because my body doesn’t react to it for some reason. It’s horrible my face is so swollen and uncomfortable it is only the second day though. Feels like my face it about to actually blow up. I really hope the swelling goes down as fast as it came up. 😢

Hi, I had a crossbite and my ortho only corrected the bottom row of teeth now my upper jaw got smaller and my I don't have contact everywhere. Did my jaw got smaller because the braces only been corrected on the bottom row of teeth. Since my correction I experience tmj and jaw pain. My situation/ cross bite is mild and there is no grantee that surgery of upper jaw will help with tmj. Thank you
