I couldn't imagine any thirty year marriage not having a not so great period. I'm happy to see these two remarkable survive and thrive. I salute the Obamas on their union and pray for their prosperity.

There isn't one couple that has been together for that many years that doesn't have a period of time when they didn't like the other person. I have 23 years in a relationship, and there have been some ups and some bumps, but if you love each other, you keep traveling the road 😊

Most long time marriages have some rough patches especially when kids are included and in the end it is quite an accomplishment to be part of a long time marriage. These two are still amazing and inspiring.

Michelle saying she couldnt stand him for 10 years is not the same as saying she hates him. This is real and I think this discussion will help others get real with their emotions and conversation in relationships. relationships are not complex we make it complex. it takes honesty, empathy and most of all respect to be at the core for it to work between oneself and between your spouse or partner. yes communication is key. but without respect theres no true relationship. the obamas respect is clear and this and love is what sets them a part from other presidents and other public figures. They respect themselves and appear to respect each other.

Michelle Obama is not alone. Most stay at home parents with career-driven spouses can totally relate. ❤

They were by far the classiest First Family in my lifetime! So much crap was thrown their way and they handled all of it with grace and charm. 😎

I have to think that the 10 years Michelle references is the decade Obama spent in politics at the national level: US Senator from 2005 - 2008, and President from 2009 - 2016. Let's face it, most people who want those jobs that badly have a very...shall we say "healthy" ego. That doesn't lend itself to being a supportive spouse. Also, when you get to politics at that level, you have a much bigger support staff; Michelle had to compete with campaign managers, strategists, advisors, etc for her husband's time. She may have signed off on his plans when he first proposed them, but I doubt you can know what it's really going to be like until you're well into it. I've always appreciated the Obamas' candor and sense of humor about their relationship, and I'm glad they were able to get through the rough patch with a better understanding and appreciation for one another.

I'm not an Obama fan but I give Michelle total props for keeping it 100 about marriage! People that pretend it's all roses and sunshine are doing just that pretending. Refreshing to hear the truth and even more so seeing it being worked through.

I've never seen the entire interview so First Lady's statement alone and out of context seems very harsh especially knowing that the media is waiting for something to report negatively about their family. However, it appears to me that she was giving the women words of wisdom to hold on to their marriages and love unconditionally even during the rough seasons. Also the words like and love aren't the same. Just like you can love your children and not like their behaviors. President Obama mentioned how the children were priority numbers 1-4 so he probably felt like a 5th wheel in his own home. He was probably frustrated. This is a common mistake in most marriages. The bigger picture is that they survived it all. They held on for better and for worse. Most of all, their problems didn't overshadow and destroy his destiny.

Michelle not liking her husband for 10 years is relatable to every married person. At least the Obamas are real about it.

Every marriage hits a rock. It's what you built up to that point that can help you through it. She speaks truth and so does he. Why I respect them so very much.

I have been married for 9 years, and I totally agreed with Michelle. Marriage is very hard when kids are involved with different activities. My husband is a very good man, but there have been times that i couldn't stand him. What kept us going, God, and our vows.
