Come on. The daughters are human. They know how that felt. And on top of being human, they were young girls at the time spending the better part of their childhood in the White House. And not just young girls like Chelsea Clinton and Barbara and Jenna Bush but the first Black girls in the White House in a country calling the family monkeys and apes. Any child wants to have a “normal” childhood, to play outside and ride a bike, to go shopping at the mall or in town, to go the movies, to hang out away from their parents at their friends’ houses or to go to a concert or do whatever they thought of as fun. They were denied all of that. Childhood isn’t the time for a “life or service.” A life of service is a choice you make for yourself as an adult — if you choose that for yourself. Childhood is a time to be free of adult cares and worries. They had to be much more than children. These girls are human. At least, let them express it.
