Have you ever wondered: is it possible to hatch an egg from the grocery store or supermarket? Are those eggs even fertilized? What happens if you try to incubate a store egg? What would the chick look like!?

Well, we’re here to show you it’s possible! We hatched a chick out of a Trader Joe’s egg, despite all the odds stacked against us! Join us on this fun experiment incubating a grocery store egg!

I honestly thought this was going to be a nonsense video but I'm glad you actually explained it and walked through the process

What a great story. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve noticed that all of the organic eggs I buy (in the U.K.) are fertilised. I never thought of growing on a chic. That sweet little chap really does deserve to live, he looks very happy in your hands. ❤️❤️

Wow! I'm glad Joe is gonna have a great life as a pet. Thanks for doing the experiment. I thought of doing this as a kid but never followed through. 👍✌️

If you go to an Asian grocery store, particularly Mitsuwa, they sell what they advertise as “golden fertile eggs”. The yolk is very orange, almost red, so I bet those will develop.

When I was a kid 50 years ago, we had chickens and the eggs were usually laid on the counter. Somehow one was over looked and ended up hatching. This was a when central air was not as common as it is now. Our house in south ga could get very hot in the summer

I just loved this story someone randomly sent me. It was a lot of fun to hear about. There's way more to growing chickens than you ever might think of.

I hatched 24 Coturnix Quail from eggs I bought right out of the fridge at Asian Supermarkets! The first time out of a pkg of 15 eggs just one hatched. The second time four hatched! The third time NINE hatched! The fourth time four more hatched… and so on up to a total of 24. I’ve had the best results with Jong’s brand in Ontario, California. At first I bought them at 99 Ranch Market but then I noticed that the Korean H-Mart has fresher eggs based on the expiration date. They are now about three years old and and I hatched many of their eggs and got an almost 100% hatch rate. All are very healthy! I gave away or sold many of them. The boys get really rowdy and noisy so they had to go. I kept two of the quiet boys. I rarely ever hear a peep out of them.

Please don’t tell Joe he was taken from his mother as an egg and sold at the grocery. He might grow a hate for mankind and quite frankly I’m not in the mood for a Rise of The Planet of The Chickens 😂

I've read about people hatching chicks from store eggs, but they were mostly from stores in the UK, where alot of stores don't put the eggs in refrigerators, they leave on shelves

Our local Asian market sells "Balut" chicken and duck eggs. They are unrefrigerated, fertile eggs. I've been meaning to throw a few under our hens and see what happens.

That's awesome. My wife and I can't wait to see what Joe turns out to be. We will be trying this after our current hatch is complete.

Ah, back when eggs were actually affordable.

Watching this video in Feb 2025 and wishing the egg prices would be like they are in the video. $2.99 for a dozen cage-free large white eggs looks a lot better than the $7.99 they are at present.

That stinky cool ! I just hatch 2 chickens, first time. I got lucky a few years ago when I ordered 20 chickens from a farm in Missouri. The children first got sent to New York and I live in Tennessee. The postman called me so excited to say he had my chickens. I noticed the long distance number. And said “ where are you calling from ?” When he told me New York I let him know I live in Tennessee. It was a zip code error when the farm shipped them. He said oh no ! We have a problem. He asked if he could call the farm about my chickens, I said sure. Then the farm called me. They said my 20 chickens were going to be kept by the New York postman because he has a place for me and is really happy to get them. And they were immediately shipping out my 20 and were sorry that happened. It was the height of the pandemic and I thought maybe God allowed that to happen so families in New York could have eggs. I got my chickens 2 days later. I give 6 to my daughter who lives in another city about an hour from me. I gave her 6 but I had 15 left. So I figured the farm gave us an extra chick to be nice. We soon learned our extra is a Rooster. And I decided to put 5 eggs in the incubator 3 weeks ago. We have 2 sweet little chickens. And we believe 2 more eggs have a chicken. Definitely going to try again. God blessed New York with chickens and blessed us with the ability to have baby chicks. Congratulations on your baby chick ! so fluffy! Leslye

I’m surprised that you haven’t gotten millions of views, because your video is very informative.😊

On the zoo shows on discovery, I see the zookeepers open eggs that are late. Maybe a day late and you could open them or even just start the pip hole for them.
