Why do you need a Sales Strategy?

I am often asked: what is a (sales) strategy good for? We are quite satisfied with our sales development, so why do we need a strategy?

There are actually several good reasons for it, e.g.

- creating a strategy forces you to make choices (e.g. concerning sales channels) and find out, why you choose certain routes

- communicating a strategy usually frees energy in your team and motivates them to work towards a common goal
