Not to be a downer, but if we take out intro and outro there's probably 60 seconds here. You really couldn't squeeze in dacs into the video? Or some examples how the sound gets changed when it doesn't get enough power?

You say: the higher the impedance it has the higher the voltage it needs and the lower the sensitivity it has the more current it needs.

This is confusingly inaccurate. I’m an electrical engineer so please trust me on this.

A higher voltage across any linear load (headphones included) will result with higher current (even most non linear loads would behave that way too). Therefor, saying some passive linear load needs a higher voltage is equivalent to saying that it needs a higher current.

The correct way to say what you wanted to say is: “For a given wanted output power, the lower the sensitivity (=efficiency), the higher the power (voltage X current) it needs to be driven with. For a given power it needs to be driven with, the higher the impedance, the higher the voltage (and hence as a result current) it needs.

I still value you opinion about headphones very much.

Hey DMS I'd be interested to hear you take a look at the focusrite scarlett solo.

I use this with my akg k37`, and I'm curious how well it works as far as a dac/amp. I use mine primarily as a way to record audio, but it's also a very convenient way to drive headphones. In my experience, I barely have to turn it to 8 o'clock to power my akg's, and my iem's.

Especially given that it's targetted at musicians, I'm interested if you feel that the audio quality is up to snuff. Thanks!

Great idea for a video! I'd also like to understand how some headphones might be over driven... my emu purple hearts have a bit of a bass bleed on most amps, but sound great on just my phone or a the "right" amp...

Sorry if this is a tad unrelated. I have a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250 ohm headphones that’s sounding just about ok on my Focusrite Scarlett. My question is, should I buy a headphone amp and run it out of the Scarlett headphone out. Or should I just buy a pair of lower impedance headphones in this case a pair of DT 770 Pro 32 ohm headphones. Which will have better audio quality. Thanks.
