How to perfectly reheat a pizza in the microwave

Don't you hate it when you try and reheat a pizza in the microwave and it turns out soggy and floppy?

Say goodbye to sad leftovers forever with this handy kitchen tip.

Simply place the pizza on a plate, put it in the microwave and add a cup or glass of water. cook it on high for 30 seconds (or more depending on your microwave) and it will be cooked to perfection.

The cup of water helps the base stay crispy, still allowing the cheese to melt.

But how does it do it? Without a cup of water, the pizza absorbs more of the microwaves being emitted, causing it to heat up quickly. This vaporises the water molecules in the pizza, causing them to permeate the crust and make it soggy.

A cup of water in the microwave actually absorbs some of the microwaves, meaning the pizza heats slower and more evenly and causing less water to vaporise, resulting in a crispier texture.

Note to do it this way your crust must be a crispy crust in the first place. If it was a soft yeasty crust when you first ate it, it won't be crispy warming it this way. The best way to warm up leftover pizza is to fry it on top of the oven. Pour cooking oil on a paper towel and rub down non-stick pan (Don't use pan spray it burns too fast) turn pan on and preheat on med-high then put pizza slices in one or two at a time and let it fry about 1 to 2 mins then flip it over on the cheesy side and let it cook 1 to 2 mins. You're good to go and it's usually better because the ingredients on top get a slight cheesy crunch. I usually add more cheese to the top to make sure I get crunchy cheesy goodness and its better than the day I bought it.

I've found that if you put pizza in the microwave, no water, for about 45 seconds, theeenn put it in a preheated oven, it comes out perfect. The crust that the microwave made soggy, will be more, but not too crispy. The cheese will be nice and melted and not plastic.

Hey thanks for this tutorial, this really helped me out! As with all college aged people, pizza is a staple part of my diet (ha ha ha, isn't there a space for pizza on the food pyramid? ha ha ha does anyone know what that is anymore? ha ha ha)

Anyway thanks a lot, this actually caused sparks in my microwave because I left a fork in there as well. Thanks!

Hi and thanks much for the Pizza and water hack in the microwave. I'm definitely going to try this with next pizza. Am curious though...do you think this may work as well with a different food item...say for example, fried chicken? Thanks again, Larry

Sort of works I guess. I had to heat it 3 times longer than normal (~2.5 minutes instead of 45 seconds) and it was still somewhat soggy. Better than no glass of water though 🤷‍♂

Playing Italian music while discussing pizza perpetuates the racist stereotype that all Italian people like Pizza. Would you play rap music if this was a video about re-heating chicken?
