Can you hear the difference between the new $18k and the $4k John Mayer signature Martin's?

I’ve been playing guitar for almost a decade, so I can confidently say that it sounds like a guitar

It’s hard to tell because the camera/mic moved between options. So option B sounded way further away and obviously there’s the proximity effect aswell so option A sounds different

If you have to listen to more than 5 seconds to tell the difference between a $4K guitar and an $18K guitar.... get the $4K guitar.

Option A had a bit more body and depth to the tone - but they sounded pretty similar.

Me listening to this through my 150 $ phone speaker: 🤔

Even before listening to Option B. Option A felt so rich when it went low and high‼️👍

But Option A felt like it was trying to reach low n high.

I guessed option A was the most expensive. It just sounds cleaner and fuller to me

Option A sounded better to me, but neither sounded like more than $600 imho… I’ve been playing the same $150 1971 Yamaha for 34 years… it ain’t perfect, but it sounds good enough… add an EQ and <chef’s kiss> ✌️

For a few years I had a Preston Thompson Dma I paid about 6k for until I SOLD IT and got a Recording King RD328 (martin hd28 copy) for $700.. and I love the way it feels, sounds, everything way more than the Thompson! And I dont sweat every time I play it worrying about scratcing it.. And with the 7k I sold it for i got an amp, several pedals, and the recording king with a few grand to spare lol

The warmth and projection of the low end on option A is what gave it away for me. Lower quality guitars tend to struggle with that.

I spent $99 on a brand new Epiphone dreadnought in 2011, and I still love it. It ain't the guitar, it's the player.

Dude, even through a phone mic, the difference was OBVIOUS.

Don’t they say the first 4K is for the audience, the rest for the player ?

A just filled the room more with a broader range of tonality. Even from further away. It was pretty obvious with headphones on.

like i always say doesn’t matter the price it matters who’s playing it.

I can tell option A was the better sounding. But not $14K better.

B has brighter tone you can hear slight difference by listening to last chord on option A and first chord on option B
Option A has slightly darker tone. Maybe in person you can hear much bigger difference, but on camera not much, just shades of tone.

If both are properly set up and tuned, one or two strums is all it should take to see if one is worth $14K more than the other

If you listen again option A would have been the guitar I picked as is had a fuller sound. More base to go with the muds & highs. Guitar B lacked the fullness. Which was more expensive no idea.
