Thank you. Basically, I feel the responsibility is on the dentist that prepped the tooth. Your video confirmed that for me.

Thanks for the sound advice Dr Mark. A very expensive ceramic onlay became detached late on the 20th of December. It was 'suctioned off' when I (very unwisely) accepted a Christmas toffee. The toffee was actually very soft so the the onlay and tooth below remained perfectly intact.
I cleaned and bagged it but there was no one at our Dental Surgery until Christmas Eve. I kept the tooth surface as clean as possible and rang first thing on the 24th. My Dentist very kindly saw me within the hour and refitted it without a hitch.
We are lucky to have the NHS in the UK so the entire cost was £21.60 ( $27.40 ). If I'd swallowed or otherwise lost the onlay ( which was 'private' work not covered by the NHS) I would have had a bill for £500 ($634.06). You are absolutely right - there is no way of avoiding a visit to the Dentist in such circumstances.

I had an upper crown that's been installed for over three years now. While I was eating, I felt the crown fall out. Luckily I did not bite on eat. I rinsed my mouth and brushed afterwards and reinstalled the crown back in again. The way this guy explained it is that my crown is installed in a mechanically retensioned way. Two large teeth on both side to hold it in place. I remember when they used to install temporary crowns before they installed permanent crowns & use these really toxin glue to hold the temporary crowns in place while you have to wait for two weeks while they make your permanent crowns. When they install the permanent crowns they use this pink colored cement. I think that pink cement wore out in time. So I assume they will just apply fresh pink cement again? I hate going to the dentist because the cost is far worst than getting your car fixed. I have a dental plan & like all dental plans they don't cover much. It's far worst for a dental implant since a majority of all dentist recommend dental implants over bridges. I'm sure everyone might agree with me.

My very expensive crown fell off a little over a year after installed. Incompetent dental office takes no responsibility. Unacceptable!

It didn't even last one day -and I bought the most expensive zirconia. I doubt that it was prepped propperly.

I felt like crown that fell off my tooth came off quite brutally. It had paste attached to it. I got quite nervous thinking what if I had swallowed that with the food I was eating at the time. I can't tell what was the real reason it fell off. I hope to learn the truth from the dentists once they fixed it one more time. I don't understand how they don't have a network where any doctor can fix the crowns should a patient need it. Probably the quality of work doesn't stay same and hard to standardized quality. But extreme inconvenience for a patient as well as much money involved in this crown fixing case.

Hello Dr. Burhenne. After watching this video about crowns and how they are fitted I had this discussion with my dentist and was shocked to find out that he disagreed in the fact that the way crown is supposed to be properly constructs and secured or fitted is through mechanics or mechanically . As you mentioned the CEMENT is used to help keep saliva out and is not used to keep the crown secured in place. No wonder why crowns often fail or come undone easily and it's not just because of decay!!!! I had a crown that just came unglued a few days ago. When I looked inside I noticed just how much larger the inside of the crown was in comparison to my grounded down tooth. What are these dentists doing these The sad thing is the dentist I have seen and the one who I just visited went to a very good Dental Dental School, ( Marquette) So I am wondering what in God's name are these schools teaching these soon to be Dentists these

Thank you so much for making this video and the other videos on your channel. My family is in a horrible financial situation and my father's crown came off, so I was searching on the internet and came across your channel. I didn't see enough comments on your videos so I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your knowledge and being helpful to those in need.

Yeah, my dentist didn't want to put the crown back on, but another root canal of pull it. There was no reason to do that, it was not hurting or anything.

Cool thanks. I've just discovered my lower right muller crown is loose, and now it's Saturday, so I have to wait til Monday to see the Dentist.

And with my Parents going on a short trip on Tuesday, I know I can't wait for them to return before seeing a dentist. So yep, looks like I now need to schedule an appointment right out of the blue, lol.
