The main problem is with the parents, they'll force their way, if someone proposes to them in a halal way, they'll neglect it and force the daughter to marry someone they want without her consent and in case of boys, the parents want a housemaid rather than a trustworthy companion for their child....a very common scene in Southern Asia irrespective of one's religion.
