Why you feel disconnected from your sense of identity | Dissociation
Description: Have you ever felt DISCONNECTED from yourself and the world around you? For example, you may feel detached from your body or feel as though the world around you is UNREAL.

With this pandemic looming on our heads, more people are starting to experience this phenomenon.

I experienced this feeling in early January this year, but I couldn't understand what was it that I was feeling exactly. But I've come to discover that it's called DISSOCIATION.

Interestingly enough, I've come to learn that many people will experience dissociation at some point in their lives. Lots of different things can cause us to dissociate. For example, we might dissociate when we are very stressed, or after something traumatic has happened to us. We might also have symptoms of dissociation as part of another mental illness like anxiety.

Good thing is, for many people these feelings will pass over time.

Though dissociation is pretty harmless, it can be quite an uneasy feeling to experience.

This was so well said ... 16 years ago I lost my 8 yr old daughter ... taking her off life support created an event that caused PTSD .. I started to disassociate involuntarily. With therapy, grounding and healthy daily routines I was able to HEAL! Thanks for posting this COVID advice. ❤️🙏💕

That’s my fav line, “ I wanna get back to my sense” lols, really! When I feel empty? I’m old enough to hold on baggage and depression. The pandemic is temporary and I believe this too shall pass, part of it is my positivism that I prefer to not be dwelling with negativity and darkness. Cheers trish!

Thanks for sharing! And yeah, the Groundhog Day feels are REAL! Sticking to routines and rituals have definitely helped me. Any time I slip for more than a couple days with my morning and daily routines, it definitely heightens that sense of feeling trapped. Appreciate you sharing this one!

To be honest, it's so hard to see ourselves disassociating while you're in the act of it..for me, I notice it most when I realize there are gaps of memories and need to do damage control. It's definitely a coping mechanism when reality is too much to bear and I think you're on target with saying that many of us are dealing with this due to pandemic. Thank you for sharing such an important message.
