My autistic SHutdowns are triggered by things like, having to live in a world that hates me when I am just trying to be myself, or dealing with people who are the epitome of evil, that def triggers me to shutdown completely.

My entire life was spent in shutdown. trying to do a 9 to 5 life, without proper rest. constant insomnia. chained to a desk when i needed lots of breaks. Now, now, now...Hurry, hurry, hurry....Faster, faster, faster!

And sometimes it's just a partial shutdown, which usually manifests as a verbal shutdown. Sometimes even if I can't speak, I can still do other things, but sometimes it's a total shutdown and I can't do anything for a bit.

I do this every time my boyfriend and I argue and he gets even angrier because he thinks I’m ignoring him on purpose

As a NT, when I make a mistake that’s humiliating or just have a humiliating experience I brood for a couple days. I’m probably not very enjoyable to be around either. It’s just me processing a failure on my part. I don’t know if that measures up to an autistic experience of a shutdown. Pain is a good teacher.

I'm in a shutdown myself. Someone pointed it out to me last month. I've been isolating in my place for several months now.

And as far as I'm concerned, people are overwhelming and over rated!

In the 1960s and '70s, I was in the mentally gifted programs throughout my public school days, so I had no idea that I was likely on the spectrum.
I didn't know what was wrong with me when I would have a shut down and couldn't function for a period of time.

I know this wasn't meant to be a funny, but when it started and it was all blurry I was expecting to clearly see your face, my brain glitched and I thought it was my eyes not focussing properly and I tried really hard to focus 😂 and when you said "This is one of the most misunderstood behaviours of autistic people" my brain chimed in with "Like not being able to focus my eyes" 🤣🤣 404 brain glitch error resolved brain reset in progress, please carry on 👍🙃😎
