The 10 Most Dangerous Cities In The United States:

We visited St Louis, Missouri, which a recent Forbes article named the most dangerous city in the country. With 70 murders per 100,000, St Louis ranked #1 last year. The city does have a clean, nice downtown and I went up in the Gateway Arch, which was amazing. The city has many other claims to fame as well, such as being the first U.S. city to host the Olympics (1904).

fact: Escape From New York was filmed in St. Louis in 1981 because the filmmakers were looking for a burnt-out, urban wasteland look and didn't want to spend a lot of money on sets.

Most big cities have some dangerous areas. I spent a week in St Louis for a medical convention and I loved it. The architecture is fabulous, lots of great restaurants and shops downtown and a fabulous theater. The ancient courthouse where the Dred Scott slavery trial was held was fascinating. The ancient street next to the arch was fun, I took a horse and buggy ride. There are so many historic neighborhoods with beautiful homes. I would recommend the Youtube channel called This House. He has lots of videos on St Louis homes and one video was a walking tour of a historic neighborhood.

You were in East St. Louis, Illinois. Too bad you came in that way. North St. Louis is where most of the crime is. We have beautiful, historic neighborhoods here. Many beautiful areas, but downtown really isn't one of them. Lots of stuff to see there, but you need to go further west into the city to really get a feel for St. Louis. Yes, we pronounce the S. We don't call it St. Louee. Then, to top it off, you were in FERGUSON! OMG! You seriously need to come in Spring and let us take you on a tour!

I'm a bit of an architecture buff and I love those old high-rise buildings with the intricate stonework and detailed facades. So many modern buildings are rather sterile and clinical to look at by comparison. Some modern buildings are beautiful to be sure, but the work that went into the exteriors of some of the older ones is pretty remarkable.
I'm also an engineering buff and I enjoyed watching your trip to the top of the Gateway Arch. That tram system is fascinating and is an impressive piece of engineering. I always thought maybe there was a sequence of elevators to get people most of the way up and around the less-curved part of the Arch, then stairs the rest of the way. I was partly correct about the stairs, but I didn't realize there were multiple trams involved and that they operated the way they do. After watching this, I had to briefly look online into the details of how they work, and it's quite ingenious - part tram, part Ferris wheel. Very cool indeed, a unique solution to a unique challenge.

My brother and I are fourth generation St Louis Police Officers. I've never lived outside the City limits. I grew up in the shadow of the E Grand and 20th street water tower on N Grand and Penrose. I love my City, but we've got our share of problems. But, like most cities in our condition, one good election could change everytging. Thanks

Okay first off you started out in East St Louis which is in Illinois. St Louis does have its problems, along with the rest of Missouri. However there are beautiful places in St Louis, property is still reasonable to buy. All the city museums are free which includes the zoo, Grant's farm is free Budweiser tours are free, botanical gardens are not free but they're very affordable even for a family and they have the largest Japanese garden in the world outside of Japan. There are more working blues and jazz artists in St Louis than anywhere else in the world. I know I've already mentioned the zoo but it is among the best in the US.
No, I don't live in St Louis. But it is probably my favorite city in the USA to visit. I love to visit the museums in Chicago, but in two days I'll have spent my entire monthly income just trying to see the museums. Where is St Louis I can take a picnic lunch and spend days exploring for free. St Louis also has probably the best Farmers market I've ever been to. You didn't show del Mar Street, the Hill area, or any of the very beautiful places in St Louis. You would think you could have at least mentioned the music there or the incredible food there, or how about the beautiful land that's all around Saint Louis. Plus I have to add Ferguson is not St Louis. Ferguson is Ferguson, Missouri.
I was so disappointed that you only showed the ugly. Every city in America has its ugly side. Do you not even see the beauty around you?
If you ever want to come back to St Louis I would love to show you the beauty here, the incredible people here.
I really wish you would have been more fair to St Louis 😤😮‍💨😢
You should check out 'through My lens' 21 things to do in St Louis. It shows the city as it should be shown. It's on YouTube

Like all major U.S. Cities, St. Louis has it's negative aspects and sadly, with the exception of the Gateway Arch, this is all we saw on this video. I am a new subscriber to your channel and have enjoyed your other videos very much. I was born and raised in the St. Louis area and I hope you will return to St. Louis and spend a little more time investigating the positive aspects of St. Louis and not so much of the negative. Native St. Louisans know what a great city and metropolitan area we have and hope viewers of this video won't think that the entire St. Louis area is a shithole after watching this. It is a much nicer city than what was portrayed here. Basically I think your videos are entertaining and enjoyable to watch. Really hope you'll give St. Louis another try next time you come to the Midwest!

St. Louis has so much wonderful architecture. I used to go downtown with groups to photograph the grunge, but no more. Such a shame to see the crime and the decline. I hope it turns around some day. In the mean time, I'll stay out here in the county.

In 1998, I went through St. Louis on the Amtrak. All you could see was rubble and trash all the way to the arch. And it didn't get better. Such a shock.

I just moved to St Louis four months ago from Miami Beach and it’s actually more dangerous there people bring guns to beach and shoot at each other there’s and drug deals, street walkers a lot of agresive homeless people 24/7 on the most famous beach area, so to me St. Louis seems very laid back and it’s actually a beautiful city that has a lot to offer to the local community and the tourist, from my point of view You just saw the very basic and the worst I don’t know if this done intentionally or something else but St. Louis has so much more to offer there is so many beautiful places to go like the Botanical Garden, Forest Park wich Is beautiful and hold the amazing Zoo, Boat House, St Louis Museum The History Museum and many other fabulous place wich Iam just starting to visit I Im in love with this city and all the potential fun things You can here there also seem to be huge art scene I many amazing sculptures throughout the the whole city the Central West End is amazing probably some of the best arquitecture I have seen in all of America You can find here and the whole seems like it was build with real money, it’s beautiful city and everyone should do more research as I did so You see it from a different perspective, I just moved downtown and did a lot of research before moving there because it’s supposed to be dangerous but I think it’s fine there’s no people stealing and that’s important I don’t see hookers walking on the streets at any time and there’s some homeless people just asking for a coin and they actually kind of polite about it, I must also say that the people here in St Louis are very kind and well mannered, good hospitality and as foreigner from South America I see a lot kindness to foreigners, and compared to other cities of the United Estates I think St Louis is affordable.

I have never heard such an unenlightened view of the city. There are many good points to St. Louis, but you didn't go see the nice parts. The crime statistics rank high because the city limits were locked in by law in 1875, so the area called St. Louis, is relatively small. If you take any large city like Philadelphia, Chicago, or Baltimore and draw a line around the most crime ridden area of 300, 000 people they would rank far higher.

Many of those old buildings are well over 100 years old.
St Louis was always known for its beautiful Architecture. Many different types and styles.
St. Louis is a violent city, but depending on where you go, it’s not any worse than many other cities.
Certain neighborhoods. And a lot of gang on gang stuff.
There are a lot of great areas, and a TON of Family oriented things to do, and the Zoo is STILL FREE.
📻🙂

Yeah, you wanna have your windows up and your doors locked at an intersection like that. Normal people will also be sitting on a gun (tucked under their leg) when people are at an intersection like that. You may very well be carjacked if you're not careful.

I'm from St Louis, relocated to San Francisco, and I find it interesting how unflattering videos of San Francisco will have a bunch of people in the comments from places like St. Louis being like, "Wow, what a dystopian hellhole. Glad I don't live there!" but then videos like this showing the unflattering parts of St. Louis will have comments full of those same people saying, "Now, wait just a minute, this isn't a fair representation. You only showed the bad parts. St. Louis has a lot of wonderful things and can be a great place to live." Do they ever make the connection? That maybe the videos of California cities are just as skewed?

You said you are coming back, so I have a suggestion. Start at the Arch, and draw three lines out from there, and follow the ones you didn't follow on this trip. There are crime-ridden neighborhoods everywhere, and in every city you visit, and you will find them along each line, but you will also find the oldest neighborhoods in St. Louis showing culturally diversified architecture. There's a farmers market in St. Louis called Soulard, The Hill, Bevo Mill, Dogtown, Midtown, Carondelet Park, Central West End, Tower Grove Park, and Lemp Mansion & Brewery to name a few. Maybe you should come in October and do a Haunted St. Louis tour at night downtown and go to some haunted houses and dance clubs. You'll likely see some wild things then. 😄

It may have been cold when you were there, but it gets damned hot in St. Louis. I've been there many times. You were smart to go when it was cold, because generally there is less crime during the colder months.

The steam you saw, may have been from the steam loop. Built in 1904, it heats many downtown buildings.
