Being from North Saint Louis myself, I must say that we have the Power to do better and overthrow this curse we're under.

I used to run those streets as a young man feeding a bad addiction. I often wonder how I made it out alive. I work hard everyday to ensure my children will never have to go through tough times like that. The odds are against folks even more these days with most drugs being laced with fentanyl. Times are different. Stay safe out there

As someone who lives here, best thing to do is mind your business. Don’t drive around again and again, it may cause for someone to misinterpret your actions and it could lead to someone shooting at you

I did some work cleaning out houses in some of the more poverty stricken parts of st louis for a time and it was such a culture shock being from the county. I'd hardly ever been downtown at all beforehand. Not a job I stuck with long, families with kids kicked out for whatever reason leaving houses full of children's toys and roaches. Depressing stuff.

Im from the Lou and that ain't the way we stop at intersections...🤣 be careful when you turn back around to check out the scene where the peeps are. They might assume you gonna roll em or do a drive by.

They know you ain't from around there because you actually stopped at stop signs, they don't even slow down most of the time this applies to traffic lights too.

A father, a HS diploma and employment make a difference. It’s unfortunate that some don’t have any of these in their lives.

I grew up in Spanish Lake, used to work at Bellefontaine Cemetery, and used to go to Baden a lot, and was in North City more than most other White people. I was in the last group of White folks who inhabited the overall northern part of the city and county. From what I've seen from both White people and Black people, not 100%, but overall, is that kids who had parents who both gave a shit about them generally turned out better than kids from completely fractured families. Parents make a big difference.

The comments are funny…I’m from St. Louis and it’s no different than any other city. If you drive in shit areas late at night, you’re gonna see some shit.

This isn’t unbelievable, it’s reality!

St Louis born and raised moved to Florida and got out alive. Was hooked of drugs back there but now I'm doing a lot better and living the Florida sober life now.

Some people don't understand how comfortable "some" ghettos can be. In the ghetto you know everybody and everything is quaint. The neighborhood stores, friends and family are a few blocks away, and even though it comes with some danger, you know which areas to avoid. I now live in a posh area and there isn't any privacy, racism and racial profiling is horrible and you have people all up in your business. There isn't any interactions with your neighbors, no backyard barbeques, parties or hanging out in the back yard. Everyone keeps to themselves and have a sense of paranoia of everyone, especially if you're someone of color. Sometimes you think you may know what you want, and even though my new home and neighborhood is more luxurious, I miss the memories, vibe and fun I had in tha hood! 🤎🖤

I figure I would just clear up where this takes place in St.Louis since everyone seems to live here but no one knows where it takes place. The video starts in Illinois going across the I-70 bridge heading west. Once you're actually in the streets you can see street signs for North Market, Vandeventer, Montgomery, and St.Louis Ave. The final nail is the Jos Becker Wallpaper, A very distinct building off North Grand, which means this drive takes place around Jeff-Vander-Lou/Carr Square which is a mostly industrial area in Downtown St.Louis, run-down sure but not really dangerous. Next time you're in the area and feeling brave I would give Jennings or Black Jack a shot!

It always strikes me as odd that in this city you could be right next to multimillion dollar homes and fancy everything then go just a fee blocks in the wrong direction and find yourself among some of the city's poorest. Poor doesn't always mean dangerous but wealthy doesn't always mean safe. My daughters were born premature and for the first few months of their lives they were at Cardinal Glennon. Just outside the gates of the hospital was a gas station. In the few short months at the hospital there were several shootings and one stabbing at that gas station. Yet the parking lot was crispy clean. The hospital top notch. Up the road wealthy people from around the US sent their wealthy kids to go to a wealthy college.

Here the differences are not only stark but they butt up against one another. I could take you on a 45 minute journey that would start in gorgeous wooded country, take you through regular working middle class neighborhoods, stretch into neighborhoods full of old wealth then cross into poor neighborhoods with abandoned buildings and shells of cars and finally into neighborhoods too dangerous for the police to enter.

There is talk of revitalizing the city. One of which is to add ports on the river for moving goods. This could be the boost to our economy we need to take many out of the slums and into decent homes. I love my city. But I live on the outskirts these days. No sense in being in the mix right now.

Yeah I used to live out there in them same exact streets, up and around that entire zone, lost friends enemies family, all out of ignorance and lack of knowledge and income. I made it out, got kids now and use all of what I went through to help the youth today navigate away from that.

Right on point. 65 and lifelong St Louis resident. I watch the local news every morning so I know the streets where all the shootings and break-ins happened. I always think "My God, what must an out-of-towner think?"

I am living in Poland. This is just so scarry to me... You can literally walk during a night anywhere in bigger city in Poland and you can feel safe. There is very little minorities here.
Sure, you earn like 3x less than in US, but also most of things is much cheaper. If that is the cost of safety, I take it...

Thank you. This brought back some good memories I used to go up there and ride around the city with my family.
