I'm an OTR truck driver and was delivering down there. I was a beginner at that time and got lost and needed help to turn my truck around. As dangerous as it seems, some people approached me and asked if I needed help. And they helped me guide my tractor trailer out of the dead end street, and it was about 1am. They good folks as long as you be straight with them. I even offered to pay them for their help and they didn't want no cash.

I will never forget the day I skipped school my senior year and saw my neighbor get shot in the face. He died on the spot and the driver drove off. New Orleans is crazy.

Im a native of New Orleans, but I moved away after Katrina and still visit from time to time. But it was fun city, as well as dangerous, if that makes any sense to you. But I will never forget the first time I seen someone get shot I was 9 years old and it was by a corner store at night. It was about 6 of us at the time, we were kids and we was going to a friend's house who lived a street behind the corner store. It was a drug dealer standing at the store. I actually knew him because he went to school with my older brother. He nodded his head to me as in saying whats up. I did the same back to him. Soon as we got to the corner, a old four door brown car pulled up and 4 dudes got out of the car and started shooting at him. We all started running. But what i remember a black lady came from out of nowhere it seemed like. She was so brave and she was upset. She said why are they shooting around these kids and shit. She took all of us home, one by one. I was the last to go home because I stayed the furthest away. But when me and her passed by the store, it was blood everywhere. But the drug dealer was gone. He survived that shooting. But its crazy how you can just be a kid playing and get exposed to stuff like that.

I spent many years doing electrical work in New Orleans. I've worked in almost every part of the city, but mostly on low income housing projects. Within less than a year of completing these projects, the residents ALWAYS destroy that area and make things look dilapidated. It's crazy to me bc they basically get brand new condos for a low price but they make little to no effort to keep it nice.
There will be very expensive cars in the parking lots too, which doesn't make sense bc you can't make above a certain amount and still qualify for housing. Obviously a lot of ppl are taking advantage of the system.

The mini neon open air party bus playing bounce is the most new orleans thing about this video

im from germany and from time to time i watch little clips like these as well from other countries. we do not have areas like these in germany. there are poorer areas and areas with a little bit more crime action, but not camparable to any of the videos ive seen until now. spraking of this video, the part where the driver drove through that abandoned buildiung was really heavy. crazy, insane but somehow interesting as well.

Well done video. Would have been even better if you used graphics to depict the neighborhood-ward you were in and what street you were on.

really good, and thanks for the audio, natural sounds of the environment are much better than music

I'm a native of New Orleans, born and raised there.
New Orleans has a look to it like no other place.
The area shown here, (beginning of video and end of video) despite what it looks like, with lots of people hanging out, abandoned cars ripped apart etc., isn't that bad of an area. (This looks to me like Uptown Deli, just off Claiborne Avenue)
This is on the outskirts of Uptown New Orleans. Uptown is the high priced, most desirable part of the city. I grew up and lived just a few block west of this area.

One thing about New Orleans, is that you can be in a nice expensive area, and in a matter of 2 blocks, be in a crime ridden slum of an area.
And while that may sound like it contradicts what I just said above, in this case it doesn't. This area's not so bad and is considered edge of uptown.

There's a lot of homeless people in the city, and there's a lot of side streets with potholes etc which give it that look. Another thing to remember is that New Orleans is an old city. Many of the buildings go back centuries. This old bldgs also tend to give it that look of being "a bad area"....

I no longer live there, but if I did
I would suggest to you that you take a local with you for a ride, someone that can show you and bring you to those places in town where we natives usually won't even drive through. And if we do, we keep windows up and doors locked. Is that being paranoid? No. It's just the way of life in New Orleans in certain areas. For many years it was the "murder capitol" of the United States. Fortunately, I think we lost that title a number of years back, when some other unfortunate city actually had more murders per year than we did.

Thanks for bringing us with you all over the United States. It's always interesting to see new places and see how others live.

Why do I keep watching videos of this guy driving through dangerous neighborhoods in big cities at night?

the area you showed with the cars is a mechanic shop and the other part is a gas station. the big abandon building is a navy base which will soon become low income apartments. you were able to drive thru but now it has been fenced off because homeless people and drug additcs were trying to take it over.

Thank you for this video. I was going to start a new midnight ice-cream truck business on this very same route but your video changed my mind 😬

Man that first street is something else with all of the abandoned cars and buildings.

Thanks for not talking my ear off like some others. It's annoying. You keep it real and know just where to take us. Keep up the great work! 💕

At 5:06 when I realized where you were going I was like, "What, are you crazy? Don't go in there!" You couldn't get me to go in there in broad daylight.
