so, in 2 yrs my $1, 400 iPhone X will conveniently start to slowdown glad I returned it. i only got it in the first place because my 6s has been so bad in the last yr. Now I know it was done on purpose to get me to buy the X. This utter crap.

This does not only happen on iPhones, I have experienced this on iPads also.

And this iPad runs IOS 9!

It's not just Apple who slows down phones after updates. Samsung does the same, my S8 Plus was amazing when I first got it, now it suffers lag and app crashes and every Android person tells me "Just Format The Phone" like No, I shouldn't have to erase everything to fix a lag problem, the OS should be able to remove unwanted problems.

Or they can stop allowing older iPhones getting the latest updates so they can work well

Ha! Apple fan boys been bragging for years about "getting the latest updates" when I been stating for years that after the 2nd year, you're only getting a new theme and a OS number change. For one, after so many years, you're not going to run the latest OS smoothly because that OS was not built for your phone. Each iPhone or smartphone in general is designed from the ground up to run whatever OS it launches with smoothly. You may get a bug fix and a small improvement here and there, but after 2 years, I wouldn't update anything. Android phones doesn't have this issue AS BAD because even on an older OS, android phones out the box will still do the task you bought it for just fine, it may only be slow compared to a newer device.

I was an avid Android user since Eclair. None of my phones were usable after about 9-18 months (particularly Samsung Galaxy devices). I then decided to try iOS. My iPhone 6s Plus is now used by one of my kids and is still running buttery smooth on iOS 11.2.1. That iPhone was first activated and unboxed in November 2015. No Android smartphone can do that and I have had the HTC Droid Incredible, the Motorola original Droid, Moto Droid Razr, Galaxy S3, Note 3, Note 4 and they were all crap after the honeymoon period was over. I’ll take iOS over lagdroid any day!

Just replace the battery... After 2-3 years... Dying lithium ion battery degrades... 🙄

Wtf so that’s what was the issue with my iPhone 6 last year? At least they told the truth even though it’s a year after.

Had the iPhone 3 and 4 both slowed down after 2 years. Went android with a Nexus 5 Nov 2013 and this just got better with every Google update, never slowed down. Just replaced it with the oneplus 5t as the battery wasn't lasting, could easily replace the battery but wanted a bigger phone.

Apple releases a update roughly 1 month before a new iPhone is released. Looking at Google trends the word "iPhone slow" is peaking at this time, and Apple calls it "to save components"?

So just replace your battery if it’s old...

I don’t think people understand that the OS slows down the phones performance based on how old or worn out the battery is.

That’s weird because with the new update I’ve experienced my battery life being reduced and also the performance being crap so I don’t see benefit

My iPhone 6 (not s) is still on 8.4 and working as fast as the day I got it. My iPad air 2 on the other hand... I wish I hadn't updated it.

At least they admitted it. That's a good start. Let's see they can walk the talk. Afterall they said it's goal is to deliver the best experience for customers.
