Thank you for the demo Patrick, very useful. One thing to keep in mind is that once you publish the pbix to the workspace it will publish it as an additional report instead of replacing it. The main impact that our users found is that any existing bookmark will need to be recreated.

Hi Patrick - here is something that would be quite helpful for a video. How does one test Row-Level security on a report that uses a shared dataset? Previously one could do this by testing on the relevant dataset and then navigating to the report of interest to test Row-Level security. However, with the new left navigation panel, one is unable to navigate to a report while testing Row-Level security on a dataset. It seems that the only report that one can test Row-Level security on, is the report that was originally published with the dataset. Please advise if there is a way to test RLS otherwise?

This is what I usually do all the time when I don't have option for deployment pipelines.

Hi Patrick, thanks for the info. Am I able to do this from the Power BI web interface or does it have to be via the client application?

Hi Patrick, I used to have a DEV and PROD workspace for this purpose. Until I noticed that switching to an other dataset and then publishing to the app will create a new instance of the report which does not replace the existing report. So it needs to be manually replaced when publishing the app. The report also has a different URL so all the existing links like in teams etc, break. Any thoughts on this?

So I knew about this, but I'm actually more interested with the picture @1:12 where you have the dataset published WITHOUT it's accompanying blank report. Whenever I publish a dataset to Power BI Service, even if its blank, it generates a report with the same name as the dataset. I'd be okay if that report didn't exist as in the example noted in the timestamp and this would be especially valuable in scenarios where you encourage users to make thin reports.

Thanks for this video
Question. This work just for 1 PBI report. What can I do having several PBI reports?
All PBI reports are connected to the same data source/Server location and I need to change it to a new Server location. Is there a way to change all data source across all PBI reports rather than open and do it one by one? Thanks

Can we do the same thing directly from Power BI service? I am using the pipeline so the report in Production env is not published from the desktop but simply deployed from the Dev env using the pipeline.

When you mentioned that schema of the dataset between dev & prod dataset should be same, are you referring the imported source table's (used to create report/dashboard) schema?
will it cause any problem if I add new chart/diagram in Power BI desktop (connected to dev env) & try to publish it to prod workspace after selecting the prod dataset from Transformation > Data source setting?

Also, how to move a published dataset from one workspace to another. Specially if it is a large datasets format.

Hey Patrick. I have some question regarding publishing Paginated report to PUBLIC websites. There is NO option for publish to web for paginated reports in Power BI Service. And the power BI embedded (embed for customers) is for the embedment of the reports for the App not the website. Can you please suggest the ways for publish to web of paginated reports? Thank you.

We do this and it works great until the moment someone comes in and says to move 20 live connected reports from Dev to prod 😢

Is there a way to automate this process, without writing code ?
