None of what you said is incorrect but I think starting somewhere is better than just pondering and looking for the next big product or design . Just start ... If t shirts are something you are passionate about which alot of people are compared to something like mugs haha .

Should you invest in ads maybe not at the start for sure but if you want to start your own little indie brand or something I can see some amazing content ideas for free

This only applies to people with no creativity. Most people try to clone what is hot and end up not making money because everyone else is doing the same thing. Fortunately I'm an artist and graphic designer and know how to create dope original stuff that catch people's eyes and make money. So if you can't be creative then this Tshirt game is not for you!

2. Niche down and sell to a specific group of people
3. Dont copy your competitors, set yourself apart by being different and better.
