Nice one, I went with 255, 18" 55 on mine with the Black Rhino's and still a fair amount of clearance.

Increasing the size of the tyres on a Mercedes Sprinter van can have several impacts:

Fuel Efficiency: Larger tyres can lead to increased fuel consumption. For example, one user reported that their fuel consumption increased by 1L/100km (from 12.5 to 13.5 L/100km) after replacing the original 225/75 16 OE steel wheels with 265/65 17 tyres1.
Vehicle Performance: Larger tyres can affect the vehicle’s performance. They can provide a slightly more compliant ride and may improve the vehicle’s stability1. However, using the wrong size or type of tyre can negatively impact the vehicle’s performance and safety2.
Appearance: Larger tyres can fill the wheel wells better, which may improve the vehicle’s appearance1.
Road Noise: The road noise with larger tyres is reported to be about the same as with the original equipment1.
Modifications: Depending on the size of the tyres, you may need to make modifications to the vehicle, such as installing a fender kit1.
It’s important to note that these impacts can vary based on the specific tyre size and type you choose, as well as the specific model of your Mercedes Sprinter van. Therefore, it’s recommended to consult with a tyre specialist or your vehicle manufacturer before making any changes to your tyre size. Also, keep in mind that extreme tyre size changes may require significant vehicle modifications3.

I went for width rather than hight, 265/70r16 no rubbing until I put 30mm spacers all around but I’m putting a 40mm lift kit on

What is the impact on the vehicles systems, e.g., speedo, cruise control etc etc?

Here are the potential impacts from increasing the size of tyres on a vehicle categorized by mechanical, electronics, and handling aspects:

Mechanical Impacts:

Acceleration and Braking: Larger tyres can often improve traction and grip, allowing for better acceleration and shorter braking distances1. However, larger wheels tend to have slower acceleration and deceleration due to greater rotational inertia1.
Fuel Efficiency: A smaller tyre size can optimize fuel efficiency1. Larger wheels require more energy to turn, which can result in decreased fuel economy2.
Wear and Tear: Larger wheels can lead to increased wear and tear on the suspension and brakes, as they require more effort to turn2.

Electronics Impacts:

Safety Systems: Upsizing tyres could potentially affect electronic safety features like the Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)5.
Speedometer Accuracy: Changing tyre size can affect the overall gear ratio and speedometer accuracy1. Different tyres will give you a different circumference, so a different reading on these times5.
Electric Vehicle Range: For electric vehicles, tyre choice can significantly influence the vehicle’s range689.

Handling Impacts:

Stability and Cornering: A wider tyre typically offers better stability and cornering capabilities, providing the driver with a more responsive and controlled driving experience110. Conversely, a narrower tyre may enhance maneuverability in tight spaces but could compromise stability at higher speeds1.
Ride Comfort: Larger wheels can provide a smoother ride as they absorb more of the road surface2. However, lower aspect ratio tyres have shorter sidewalls, making them stiffer but more steerable10.
Please note that these impacts can vary based on the specific tyre size and type you choose, as well as the specific model of your vehicle. Therefore, it’s recommended to consult with a tyre specialist or your vehicle manufacturer before making any changes to your tyre size1234567891011.

I'm gonna try to squeeze 195/80r15 on my VW Caddy because I got the tyres for free. They are 2 inches taller than stock

Really informative thank you. I have the original wheels like you guys too and can’t decide between the BFG’s that you have or Cross Climate. The latter I think will be quieter and better fuel economy - And less wear and tear on the steering gear, but will last longer and mean we are less likely to get stuck in mud/sand etc. it’s a dilemma alright, don’t really want to get it wrong 😬 how are they fairing now after been on for over a year please?

Hello, if you used aerocote, does that mean you’re a Norfolk/Suffolk boy? I’m from Norwich and just got myself a sprinter and knowing someone with a sprinter who’s doing some mods will definitely be helpful, especially this video!

Not sure if anyone can help me out. I have a 2008 sprinter, I’m looking to stick 17 inch black rhino wheels on with all terrains. Anyone got any suggestions for the best sizes
