Biggest Tire Size on a Tacoma/4Runner with NO LIFT!

In this video, we show what's the biggest size tire that will fit on a stock 3rd gen Tacoma with very minor modification. With the suspension completely stock, the biggest tire size that will fit is a 33" tire or 285/70/17 equivalent. This can be done with very minor trimming of the front fender liner and rear fender flare.

If you do NOT want to do any trimming at all, then you can go with a 32" tire or 275/70/17 equivalent. The wheels we used are Method NVs in a 17" size with an offset of 0. The tires used are a BFG KO2 in a size 285/75/17.

For those who want to keep the stock wheels: I have a 2018 Offroad at stock height and literally just installed 265/75/16 tires which equates to a 31.7" wheel; no shaving required and no rubbing at all at full turn. Like TT mentioned, I believe you could get away with 32"s at stock height with zero shaving/rubbing, but I haven't seen any tire spec combo that gets you to exactly 32" at R16.

not sure why so many haters. sure it will rub going over a speedbump let alone off-road. but this is an excellent video that could provide someone new to tacos with an indication roughly how big of a tire it will take. after watching this a newbie will see that a 2.5' lift will most likely be sufficient to fit a 33" tire so this is extremely helpful

Interesting take on an upgrade with minimal modification. Had me sketched out with that box cutter though 😳 eesh

I just got my bfg ko2 285/75/16 no lift needed no rub this morning thanks to your video. Trd pro oem height didnt need any trimming. Mounted & balanced so quiet thus far.great vid guys . Helpful info helped make my decision.

So if you drive straight on a perfectly flat road, you won’t rub.

With that tight clearance, it’ll still rub. Specially when going in reverse. There will be a slight compression in the spring and hence will rub. Ideally a cheap top hat spacer is needed for 285s.

Just bought a TRD Sport last Tuesday & I’ve been following your page ever since lol! 👍🏾

I put 33' tires on my Tacoma with Quarter inch wheel spacers for the front only and they did not rub at all. did not had to cut nothing! but that works to. great job.

The way he cut that liner gave me anxiety

If you just put studded 33's on it, the studs will trim any plastic for you over about 3000 miles 🙃

On my 23 TRD OR, on the TRD alloy wheels I got 265/75R16 and I have no issues. I have not fully flexed the truck but I doubt I will have issues rubbing. For summer time, I run my steel wheels with 245/76R16 tires and I’m happy with that. If I ever decide to lift, I would only go with the TRD q inch lift, personally.

I have these same wheels paired with Falken Wildpeak 275/70-17, stock suspension. They indeed do rub with the wheel at a slight angle

Ran into the same problem with my 2023 trd off road putting on 285 70 17 i did the same thing and works like a charm

2” bigger tire is only 1” worth of lift. Tires are round.

I run the Wild Peak 275/70R17 and they barely rub on the after market mud flaps that Toyota makes. No body rub on 2016 Gen 3. Love these tires.

i just put 285/70/17 k02 on my trd sport and it rubbed A LOT even with a 2” lift. we had to trim a lot of the wheel well plus do a cab mount chop. there’s no way this won’t rub without any lift especially when the shocks compress off-roading

F the haters. Great vid. Very minor cutting which would still be needed even with a lift. Obvious off-road limitations but you got it done. I'm sure the owner is very pleased with the way it looks. Can always decide to put lift later, meanwhile looking good this whole time!

Thanks for showing this. Although I was tempted to go bigger on my 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport, I decided to go with the Wildpeak At3W in 265/70/17 on Black Rhino's Sierra wheels. It actually feels great and I think I could have gone up one size. Anyhow, thanks guys for all the awesome vids. 💯🤙

I was gonna comment my 2 cents on the clearance too, but everyone is already jumping on them...lol...
