The audible alarm and big bright temperature display, are both good reasons to like a temperature controller on an expensive aquarium, BUT the thing I forgot to say clearly, is that it stops power to the heater once it reaches the set temperature. A faulty heater Can Not overheat and BOIL your prized fish.

The warm/cool version is also very useful for nano/pico tanks. I have a tiny reef tank with one of these - it’s hooked up to a tiny 7.5w always-on (no internal thermostat) heater, and a little desk fan. So the only equipment in the tank is the probe, the little heater, and the intake of my little HOB filter. Works like a charm, and without the extra bulk of a heater with a thermostat (even the smallest aquarium heaters are bulky in a 10 litre tank if they have an inbuilt thermostat). Fantastic investment.

I have a Johnlen Micom External Display LED Heater in my 200-litre; apart from the two High/Low inbuilt temperature alarms it also turns off the heater if it's accidentally removed from the water to prevent thermal cracking. 👍
