DauT Plays The Poles

The Poles were recently introduced and I have a lot to say about their bonuses. In this game DauT goes against a strong up and coming player and tests out the civ!

The name is just Chinese for "Uruguayan." It's a phonetic transliteration of the country's name into Chinese sounds "Wu La Gui" plus "ren" ("person").

I guess it's a testament to how well they made this game that it's still not dead! I'm counting my blessings that it's still alive, you don't see that many good games out there anymore with this level of longevity or engagement. One of the best things Microsoft has ever done, hands down!

szlachta is pronounced something like >shlahta< (with the main accent on first A). Mind you that thesecond H (the only one in written word) is said more like in home or havoc - it's not silent.
By the way, the word means 'nobility' as in noble class of cociety.
Resident Polak here, kurwa ;)

They should release a pronounciation tutorial with each update.

The vill hp regen is pretty fun knowing that Poland has a long history of uprisings and keeping its national spirit through occupations (since 1790s to basically 1989 with a short break between the world wars when it was truly self-governing). You better leave a polish villager non-breathing or in no time you'll have to deal with him again xD I swear, that's historically accurate

Loved when Daut took back most vills but kept one hanging around and eventually made those docks. Brilliant.

Devs: so you guys didn't like our last two civs?

Drop poles and bohemians

Devs: How you like me now?

It's cool that AoE2 added new civs, but they are missing one really important one, the Germans. Since the printing press was made by a German making them a pioneer in communication, the special thing about that civ would be that spec chat would work, but only if you are watching from their perspective.

Thank you for posting these and hosting them. Your channel is one of the very select things I can watch that takes my mind off reality. That is a blessing during these times.

I seem to recall T90 thinking that the Poles might be OP when first reading the patch notes. I'd like to hear a discussion of what changed his mind, considering he's saying things like, "they're not the strongest civ" and whatnot. Like, what did he experience between then and now that convinced him that they're not as strong as he first thought they would be?

All that said, Poles really are a grand slam of a civ in terms of fun. They're just so interesting. It feels like you've always got something up your sleeve when you're playing them. You've got raiding-resistant vills, you've got stone out the ass, you've got gold *from* said stone, you've got killer light cav, you've got a hard counter to high-armor units, you've got cheap heavy cav, and you have hearty eco.

Despite all that, they're "not the strongest civ, " you say? It's a miracle of design, if that's the case, to have a civ that feels powerful but isn't actually overly powerful.

0:26 Magyars should also get winged hussars. They were the original ones. Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth hired these troops as mercenaries and impressed by their effectiveness, soon after formed hussars of it's own.

It's like cover song becoming more popular than the original.

Poles as a whole, I'm so glad you chuckled at that

You pronounce Szlachta as Shlahta.

Sh - same as in "shock" or "sugar"
lahta - pretty self explanatory, you just need to actually pronounce the second "h" (ik in English you usually don't pronounce h when it's in the middle of words but in this case you should pronounce it like it's at the beginning, like in "house" for example).
Szlachta was the name for the Polish nobility btw.

Source: Not Polish but am Croatian, which is also a Slavic tongue

I love this channel because you zoom in sometimes. I hate it when many people just zoom way out all the time.
