Stealth Plate Mythbusted : Can You Getaway With a Hideaway?

Fast and furious fantasies and acceleration away from the police in a movie car chase like James Bond 007 to Jason Statham in the Transporter seriesmake you believe that you can hide your license plate to evade the police. However, in real life people have claimed to use stealth plates to avoid tolls and not get arrested, and some have been caught. Obscuring plates is highly illegal, but for an exercise with the Procharged Mustang GT Smurrf we installed a stealth plate from amazon to see how effective it was and go in depth to mythbust this weird gadget. For $150 dollars you could see if this is even possible - so we took one for the team and tried it out.

I had a buddy who had been drinking and smoking all night, he got lit up and made the genius descision to run, he ran for like 40 minutes with 5 or more cops on him, crashed into a pole or tree or something, got out ran into the woods and called a friend to pick him up a few blocks away. The plate flipper ones are better because you won't visibly stand out for not having a plate when you want your main one hidden. You just flip it to a fake or show plate instead....

I have always added an inch wedge of plastic or wood behing the top of my lic plate . It tilts the plate down, bouncing the radar signal down, instead of back to the device. Does NOT "deface" or obstruct the plate!

License Plate covers are supposed to be used for photos and identity protection when not driving or leaving your vehicle parked. Car meets is a good place to check people’s cars and take photos without having to edit the picture and blur the license plate which is a hassle. Also leaving your car unattended so that it doesn’t get stolen or copied by a stranger who has the same car and color as yours.
