Has anyone seen these in public before?

Please keep working on this. If you figure out one that is undetectable in person, but blocks the cameras, that would be gold.

Cameras that ticket you should be illegal. You have a right to face your accuser. You cannot question a random notice they send in the mail based on a camera.

"Can you read his plate number?"

"Just look for the car with the four faux rocket engines on it"

I have always added an inch wedge of plastic or wood behing the top of my lic plate . It tilts the plate down, bouncing the radar signal down, instead of back to the device. Does NOT "deface" or obstruct the plate!

Super illegal in Cali. Still, a better idea would be completely cover the plate in retroreflective glass spheres so any camera flash or headlight would simply overwhelm the camera sensor. This would also work against IR illuminators commonly used in ALPRs.

Definitely need something with more coverage. The roaches can potentially get a match from a partial number + car make + model. If there are any distinguishing features on your car, that will also help with a match.

In a lot of states even a clear plastic cover over your license plate is illegal and you can get pulled over for it edit a lot of people that try to hide their license plates are doing it to avoid paying tolls

The frenel piece will turn yellow due to uv light over time. I used one in Yuma AZ on my bike and it turned a ugly yellow real fast. It depends on how much sunlight it gets obviously but parking your vehicle when your at work for 3 months or so of time turned mine yellow. I even tried to park facing away from the sun as well.

Alternatively you could get polarized plastic. Often it's used to put on two computer screens so that people who are left or right of you cannot see the screen. In this case turn it 90 degrees so it's up and down. I'm pretty certain that Amazon sell it by the roll

Us as a while here in Michigan have done a good job at petitioning and voting down speed cameras twice so far. Once he can’t fight it anymore here is what I’ll be doing. 👍

"But remember, don't actually drive around with one of these on your car." BWAHAHAHA! Sounds like a pharmaceutical ad on TV saying "Don't take Wegovy if you are allergic to any of the ingredients." I love it.

With police now on the lookout for these, one would need a really sneakily-designed visual 'stealth' one to get away with it. If it only covers part of the plate (i.e., the lettering segment), then shading/color contrast with the rest of the plate will give it away, as would any visual lettering distortion from looking at the plate at a ground-level side angle. And at night, there would need to be no unusual extra reflectivity from headlights behind one's vehicle.

Got pulled over doing this, don’t do it

When I worked as a motor officer in California, Steve Jobs (Apple) would drive his Mercedes two door roadster around without the plate. It was just a fix it ticket anyway, and he didn't want people knowing his license plate. You could always go that route.

I’m really confused. Here in Virginia, you are not required to pay any of the tickets from a red light camera. It even states at the bottom of the ticket. Failure to pay this fine will not negatively affect your credit or driving history. I know several people that have got them, never paid and nothing happened. If you ever get one of course read the fine print or check out the laws in your area.

edit:I’d say it’s probably different in different states. So check your state laws.

I find it a lot easier to take the license plate off for when it’s required

FYI those cameras are designed to take photos at specific angles..if plate is angled both front and rear ...no photo....and still legal should a patrol unit sees you some will cite you for covers it's considered obscured vision. City of Carson calif does this as well as rims on vehicles if not stock
