Greatest 2 Minutes of Grateful Dead

WARNING: You will become a lifelong Grateful Dead fan after hearing this. In my opinion, this is the greatest 2 minutes of the Grateful Dead and in live music history. Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, and the Rhythm Devils are in perfect sync throughout these 2 minutes.

Comment you favorite segment of live Dead or your favorite live Dead jam!

I know there are so many more sublime Grateful Dead moments. I feel like everything came together during the end of this jam on 5/8/1977. Jerry Garcia shreds so hard here. Music was never the same after this night in May 1977.

If you know, you know. If you don't, hopefully this video will turn you on to the Dead and help preserve the legacy of the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia.

If you are trying to introduce someone to the Dead, I feel like it is easier to show them a video with the band playing rather than just having them listen to the music without any actual film of the band. Unfortunately, there is no footage from the Cornell 77 show. Thus, I created this montage in an attempt to sync with the music and make you feel like you are hearing and seeing the music live. I feel like this video will be very helpful for introducing people to the Grateful Dead and for turning new fans on to the Grateful Dead. For us who are already fans, I never tire of revisiting this moment. I apologize for leaving Mickey Hart out.

My favorite 2 minutes EVER is the transition between "China Cat" and "I Know You Rider" on Europe '72...

"Take a step back, now take another step the sound board cassette I first owned in 1983 from this show opened the doorway to new perceptions and years of following this magical band. So much gratitude.

Everyone argues that there are better shows, but just think back and remember how many friends you turned onto the dead with this scarlet/fire.

Dancing in the Streets, from this show, is what got me into the Dead. That wah wah solo from Jerry melted my face off!! I think my jaw hit the floor too!!

As a 40 year fan of the Dead, it takes a unique ear to appreciate their
music. And seeing them live is important to appreciating them.

as a young dead head born after Jerry passed I would like to say... full body intense goose bumps. Thansk for this.

Cornell 77 is hands down my favorite show! I could listen to it over and over and it never gets old. Great post!

"Greatest two minutes of Grateful Dead". That's some statement. Though just as an example I would throw the 'Beautiful Jam' in there from 2/18/71. Though it's over two minutes, there is no way in hell anything can be called the greatest as I could give you 20-30 other examples. They would all be from 68-74.

3 weeks ago...I met a US Navy captain who commanded a destroyer during the Cuban Missle crisis...he now plays acoustic guitar. At an informal jam...he kicked off with Scarlett Begonias...I was playing mandolin...I played the lead notes faithfully...I was in Heaven! He went into Cumberland....then Ripple. He was in his 80's...excellent musician!

I was in that 74 audience. Seastones into Dark Star into Dew was one of the highlights of my music life. Better show for sure. 😎

I used to have a quadrophonic copy of this in the times of surround system, I think the melt between these two songs is one their most sublime moments ever

This might be my favorite performance ever by the Dead. The Scarlet Fire on 5/8/77 is friggin unparalleled - absolutely legendary. The band is so tight in these two songs, never again would they play a Scarlet Fire that hits like this one

I was also at Winterland in October 1974 four out of five nights. Missed the first night as I was hitchhiking down from Oregon. My next and last times to Winterland was 12/29, 30/77.
