“Take a memo please Moneypenny…” 007 resigns from MI6 in ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE (1969). As he clears out his desk there are Easter eggs and musical cues from previous Bond films including Honey Ryder’s dagger from DR. NO (1962) and the underwater re-breather from THUNDERBALL (1965).

There are better examples in the movie, but even in this scene I think the cinematography in OHMSS is such a step-up from the previous Connery movies (or even the Moore ones that followed it). We get more interesting angles of Moneypenny's office than the usual, singular 'audience-watching-a-play' angle we usually saw her and Bond from, we get a cool little visual flourish like Bond seeing himself reflected in the framed glass of the picture of the Queen and the whole thing looks slightly darker, moodier and grainier than the usual well-lit way the MI6 scenes were shot. Some of the many reasons this movie is such a stand-out of the older Bond movies for me.

This was Lois Maxwell at her best. This was the only time the relationship between Bond and Moneypenny went beyond the usual banter pre-reboot.

1:08 I think about this shot often. It would've been so easy to just cut to the picture, then back to Bond with the flask and have him raise it to the Queen, but Peter Hunt decided to add something more interesting to the frame, and his creative touch will forever make me grateful he ever got a chance at directing a Bond film.

Lazenby... What a great Bond he portrayed even if it was for that one time only. A pity he didn't continue to play Bond after this movie.

This scene, for me, ends the Codename Theory.

"Kindly present it to that monument in there" has got to be one of my low-key favourite Bond lines.

I've rewatched this film so many times over the years, but it was only recently that I caught the musical cues as he picks up the props from previous films - love the Thunderball theme!

Can't believe Lazenby was only 29 in this...

James Bond isn’t a code name. This scene is a living proof of it

Edit: also sir roger moore in for your eyes only visiting Tracey’s grave is also a proof

This is still my favorite James Bond movie, I wish that we would of had a couple more with George Lazenby I feel as though he would have grown into that role beautifully.

My God. This movie was publicized so much and they even promoted George Lazenby as the ultimate successor of Connery. Even the pre-title sequence was like an ode to Connery. Little did anyone know, Lazenby would be Bond for a solitary time.

I like that this movie has a connection to every Bond (except Craig): the gadgets in this scene to Connery, Tracy Bond to Moore and Dalton and the family motto "The World Is Not Enough" (which appears later on) to Brosnan.

Very touching scene with bond going thru old trinkets. George L carried himself very well as bond contrary to widespread trolls.

And the Queen is still the Queen, 52 years later. Incredible!

Love the ode to the great moments of the bond films of yesteryear with matching music. The passage of time. I wish to God Lazenby had done Diamonds. Ohmss is # 4 on my all time 007 film list. Fantastic fantastic film.

It's incredible how everybody here is such a huge George Lazenby fan but won't say if they saw Becoming Bond or not.
