On Her Majesty's Secret Service is the sixth in the James Bond series produced by Eon Productions. It is based on the 1963 novel by IAN FLEMING. Following SEAN CONNERY'S decision to retire from the role after You Only Live Twice, Eon selected GEORGE LAZENBY, a model with no prior acting credits, to play the part of James Bond. During filming, Lazenby announced that he would play the role of Bond only once.

The film was first released in the United Kingdom on December 18th, 1969.

This was such an underrated Bond Film. It was poorly received at the time but in retrospect it’s one of the best Bond films and George Lazenby really played the role well. Great intro theme as well.

Sir John Barry knocked it out of the park here. I had chills when I heard the newer rendition in NTTD along with We Have all the Time in the World.

Love how the theme starts off with a more dark and mysterious tone but then slowly gets more intense and epic. Perfectly captures the essence of the film for me as it is quite epic in some areas such as the battle at piz gloria but is also dark in areas such as the ending

Have seen this film many times and only now just realised the genius of the opening titles. The martini glass becoming a sand timer, the clock face motif with Bond trying to turn back time. It's bloody brilliant.

This was such a significant movie in Bond history. It was the first to attempt without Sean Connery, who defined the franchise. It attempted to go beyond gimmicks and gadgets into a more serious and mature espionage thriller. OHMSS was also released at the end of the 1960's, an era which Lazenby believed would mark the end of the spy genre, which is part of the reason he left after this one film. The element of time is significant in this sequence because it marks the passage of not only the Bond franchise, but the character. Bond is older, wiser and read to give up the dangerous lifestyle to settle down. Of course, tragedy strikes. This would have been a perfect cap to the Bond series had they ended it here or made one or two more movies with Lazenby; but, alas, they were forced to back peddle and bring back Connery before transitioning into a new era with Roger Moore, then continue the franchise ad nauseum.

Still, you can see OHMSS being the end of an era, and the possible beginning of a different era that never occurred. Time is funny that way.

I was old enough to work, and saw this in the theater I worked at. It still stands out because the theme and incidental music in this movie - is in EVERY Bond movie after this one in one form or another.
