ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE | Opening Scene

“This never happened to the other fellow.” The opening scene of ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE (1969) has Bond rescuing Tracy (Diana Rigg) from Draco’s men on Guincho Beach in Portugal. George Lazenby’s line came from an in-joke from the set that made it into the final film. “When I’d have to work at the weekends, the stuntmen would tell me, ‘Connery never did weekends’. I’d say, ‘That never happened to the other fellow eh?’”

"This never happened to the other fella" - my all-time favorite Bond line!

Haven't seen this for years. The fight choreography is still pretty impressive now. And “This never happened to the other fellow” must be one of the best lines in the Bond franchise history.

This movie in my opinion is the first dark bond. People say it’s the living daylights but when a film opens with a women trying to comit suicide you know it will get dark. I love this film and is constantly playing in my house.

Lazenby, considering he had no prior acting experience, did a great job as James Bond. Wish he could have done way more Bond films. I'll admit he actually did pretty good saying "Bond. James Bond".

Saw this movie for the first time tonight and honestly I was so impressed. It is one of the best bond movies I've ever seen. George Lazenby was brilliant and he can really move, his running technique is flawless.

One of the greatest Bond scenes. This was filmed at day but edited to look like night. Awesome stuff, George Lazenby!

Gorgeous George, always my favourite 007, horrified when he was ditched after just one chance. The on-screen chemistry between him and the stunning Diana Rigg was magic (RIP Dame Diana), and her all-too-brief time as Mrs Bond was brilliant; surely one of the most beautiful movie brides ever. Best ever Bond film with everything perfect, even that gorgeous tri-colour (presumably Cartier) wedding ring.

Fun Fact: George Lazenby served in the military, has a black belt in Karate, and even trained with BRUCE LEE and that combat training absolute shows in this scene.

Love this Bond film. In my opinion George did a great job and Diana was superb. Peter Hunts Direction was 1st class and you could tell he was an expert Editor..

When I first saw this film I often thought he was talking about Sean Connery's Bond when he said "This never happened to the other fella." But now I'm older with repeated viewings; he realized that he picked up Tracy's shoes... So it's reference to Prince Charming and Cinderella's glass slipper; I suppose this whole film could be a reference to Cinderella but with a much sadder ending.

Music and editing in this Bond is unsurpassed. In my opinion still the best Bond-Film of all time. Lazenby was simply marvelous!

Hands down to Lazenby’s take as Bond. I wish he played Bond more than once. I wish I would’ve like to see him in Diamonds Are Forever

I put off seeing this film for years, solely based upon what was being said. I finally saw it for the first time about a decade ago, and I was blown away. This film was the closest to Ian Fleming's ideal and was a brilliant segue after Connery.

The opening scene is beautifully shot, with Diana Rigg looking so beautiful, almost ethereal, in that diaphanous dress.

The fifths are brilliantly choreographed; violent, and serious, not playful, as would later happen under 'Simon T' .,

The line Lazenby says to the camera is priceless; 'This never happened to the other guys, as it tells us this IS new, but there's a familiarity.

I think of it as a forerunner to Craig's Bond. There are many similarities; they both are far more serious than the '70s silliness.

I hope if anyone's watching this for the first time, and esp if they're older, and grew up before Daniel Craig's tenure, watch this with one eyes, and enjoy

For a while, I kept forgetting this is a James Bond movie. It's made so differently to the norm that was Sean Connery's James Bond it seems like it's own little film.
