Every time somebody makes fun of someone in the shop for crashing a machine, I say you will be next to do it.
It happens to everyone no matter how good you are

Disco ball was epic. Once crashed a 50hp anayak 5 axis. Machine was so powerful it moved a 3 tonne die base 50mm when clamped

should make a video on crash recovery. especially if the tool or bit is stuck in the work piece or an axis is jammed.

As a former machinist, there’s no worse feeling than getting your Z-axis wrong and crashing the machine. A full day of roasting from co-workers is soul crushing

I’m a one man Cnc shop, so watching these videos is a good reminder that I’m not the only one. I even managed to set titanium chips on fire when the coolant ran dry.

I quit crashing machines when I retired 7 years ago. Seeing crashes still breaks my heart though.

I always got a kick out of the newer guys when they would feel guilty about making a dumb mistake. I would always tell them "just wait 'til you've been doing it for 35 years and do the same dumb thing." 😂

Came across this short randomly and it triggered some memories of a cnc machine incident that happened to me and a classmate from highschool 2006. I came from a non American school that has focused technical subjects for HS students that's part of out curriculum that specializes in given fields. Computer engineering, electrical, industrial drafting, I picked mechanical engineering that taught us how to weld, read vernier calipers, use the lathe, milling, cnc machine, and then some. Buddy and me was assigned an old cnc machine, from the mid 80s I think. It had a huge protective box around it with a plexiglass viewing window. He was cutting the metal on our individual projects first, and I assume he ate the bit into the metal too fast and forcefully, because when it made contact with the metal the bit broke off, flew towards us, punched a hole through the plexiglass, zoomed pass my friend’s head so near that it clipped the arm of his glasses which snapped it, kept going, punched a hole through the glass window behind us, and finally coming to a rest by lodging itself on a school bus’ passenger side windshield. We had Toyota L300 school buses back then. We were chewed out by the floor's supervisor for not wearing safety glasses, even if I did albeit on top of my head since it wasn't my turn to use the machine yet, and friend just didn't want to because in his 14 year old kid way of logic, he already had prescription glasses on and that's like the same thing. Personally I thought with the amount of kinetic energy that bit had to flew off as it did, it wouldn't really matter if he had safety glasses on or not.

That event just really stuck with me for so long because the idea that if my friend would have just shifted his body weight to the left, and thus his head would move half an inch, he would have been dead, and I would have essentially witnessed something like a gunshot wound to the head, through the eye.

I got fired from a shop for crashing the machine ONE TIME.
That shop closed its doors within a year because they couldn't keep anybody.

Seems like titans of CNC is a nice shop to work for

That first one should have been in a hainbuch stationary collet chuck. Would have held it loads better 👌👌

dude at my work ran his machine all the way off the X axis, don't ask me how, I wasn't there, and I thought there was user, and machine parameters to prevent this kinda stuff.

Oh man, thank you so much to publish that kind of video, because we, hobbyist have sometime the same problems ^^, and it's reassuring to know that even the pros don't have a 100% success rate

Thank you for sharing! I'm glad to know, I'm still a professional even after making mistakes like these. I always feel dumb when these things happen.

The true measure of success is the quality of your blooper reel.
