Almost everyone at Gamescom gave interesting hardware discussions about handhelds. My hunch is that you should save your money a little longer if you're planning to buy one. It seems like a lot more options and improvements are coming soon (not sure on exact timelines).

PS5 Pro an Open Secret

In a recent live stream, the Italian website Multiplayer mentioned that it had heard from a developer that they had delayed their game due to the upcoming launch of the PS5 Pro. I can confirm that I heard something similar during one of my appointments at Gamescom 2024.

Without even being prodded by me at all, a developer that I won't name openly said they had received the specs of the PS5 Pro and were confident that Unreal Engine 5 would run much better on the new hardware compared to the regular PlayStation 5. Considering the circumstances revealed by Multiplayer, I'm positive this is not the same developer they talked to. Moreover, the studio I heard it from is not at all a big one, which makes it clear the hardware's specifications and details are already in the hands of a large number of game makers.

As such, it is reasonable to assume an official announcement is near. Looking at the PS4 Pro, the console was announced on September 7, 2016, and subsequently launched on November 10. The same could happen again, as suggested by an industry analyst in late July.

I’m 62 just getting back into gaming. I am learning my way around my new ps 5 slim and portal. I left my ps 5 in NC and I’m in Fl. Now for a few weeks. I couldn’t get the portal to hook up with my friends WiFi so I used my phone hotspot to hook up to the ps5 in NC. After a minute or two it said it was ready to play and I played Astro bot. I am loving the Portal the more I play and learn about it.
I watched you tube on it to. I don’t think it would play so smoothly if I wanted to play call of duty, but the easy going games it seems to be ok. All about the connection.

I guess if ps5 can play those ps5 pro games its fine but man what do they expect people that have the og ps5 to do, buy another ps5 just cuz its newer and improved?
I paid a lot for the og one - 877 euros and I had to buy more memory and another joystick so I am above 1k.
And with ps5 pro what if they do a barrage of games at release and then only a few release and they start moving towards ps6 with games already...
Honestly a mess imho.

I would still prefer a handheld that ran PS3/PSP/Vita games natively, especially if it could also remote-play PS4/5 as well. Maybe after they've sold all these PS5 remakes but they'd probably still want us to buy our old games again, anyway.

Hey jimmy would you prefer the portal over Chiaki on Steam deck OLED? I am going to buy the portal as I want adaptive triggers and decent rumble. Chiaki works fine for me right now but more for casual stuff like fallout 76

Do you think there's any chance of getting backwards compatibility for the digital library of psp/ps vita games on the new hand-held? I'd love the reward for brand loyalty in the sense of having access to already purchased digital games from previous systems (coughcough ps3). Also, with the consistent stick drift issues on the dualsense controllers, why haven't they made the jump to factory installed hall effect sticks?
