First time I saw this scene I was nearly brought to tears because of the implications of Shinji not having been to this beach and moment since EoE in 1996 and here he is getting a chance to revisit this integral moment but as a new Shinji with different views on himself, his contemporaries and life compared to last time he was here. You can tell he’s at peace here compared to the despair and insanity of the beach scene in EoE.

Never have I just desperately wanted a character to find peace and happiness more than Asuka. I get such a parental feeling with Asuka. Such a good child but so troubled.

The Japanese voice actress for Asuka had some interesting comments on this and the preceding confession scenes. She wanted to make the verbiage more ambiguous on Asukas part. When she said "I had a crush on you" She intentioned for it to be said in a way that doesen't imply if she did or didn't have a crush on him *now*. Less to keep it ambiguous for the audience, but more that Asuka doesen't even know.

Then in the follow up, Asuka's little embarassed roll away answers it for everyone. It's cute shit is what I'm saying

They're issues with each other are the issues they have with themselves. Meaning if they can't resolve their own issues then they can't have a healthy realtionship, period, not specifically with Asuka but with everyone else as well. Which ironically makes it so that if they actually got together it would mark the point where they could start accepting who they are. Probably one of my reasons that I like EoE more even though it looks dire, it's not like life is perfect, even when you've decided to live there'll still be hard times, that's what "I need you" was all about. 3.0 + 1.0 decided that the best way to deal with the every characters problem, like Eva, is to wish them away and go with this other girl that I've barely met or talked to.

I just finished NGE and EoE two days ago took me like 2 or 3 days total and I’ve seen nothing past that so I assume everything past it is a new timeline or something… but I hope at the end of EoE Asuka and shinji end up together… they both had feelings for one another I’m just confused why Asuka caressed his cheek clearly showing she still loved him imo but then called him disgusting? Was it because she seen everything he did (hospital scene) while in the LCL during ep 25 and 26? Hence why in the LCL she said she knows about his “jerk off fantasies to her” but she caressed him first so the loves still there? Also he choked her I’m assuming to parallel him choking her in the LCL to see if both times she was real in the LCL she was there as they all became one in memories but not physically real like the ending? Anyway I just hope they ended up together.. also what happened to Rei? Did she die after shinji gave everyone the choice to return? And can Misato return too? If so they also both loved him but I just want him to end up with Asuka.. :(
Even in ep 25 and 26 and EoE when Asuka is in the hospital besides the scene Shinji’s begging for her to wake up and be okay and call him an idiot at least once more 🥹 and later in EoE Asuka is begging for Shinji to help her in the 9vs1 and when he sees her evas mutilated corpse he causes the third impact for her

this shinji in this timeline or future clearly has his head screwed on better than NGE/EoE so he was able to admit it to her and she clearly likes him here too from the blushing and rolling away as much as she did in the original (kissing him, trying to sleep next to him and kiss and calling for his and his help in the 9vs1 in which he caused the third impact once he seen how badly damaged her Eva was and in the hospital it was reversed he was begging for her to wake up even if it was only for her to call him a baka/idiot) this anime has me depressed asf mannn I just want Asuka and shinji to be happy together, :(
He also has Rei and Misato who loved him but I want it to be with Asuka
