Does the new Ford Ranger challenger measure up? (Mitsubishi Triton GLS 2024 Review)

The Triton’s recent major update hoped to elevate Mitsubishi’s dual-cab pickup out of the cheap bin and into level pegging with the ute segments finest protagonists.

Still, at just under $60K before on-roads, the handsome GLS grade lobs an affordable alternative to higher-spec Ford Rangers and Toyota Hiliuxes without skimping on capability and features.

Is the MY24 guise enough of an upgrade to Triton? Is it a good value proposition? And most of all is it premium enough to face off with the rest of ute-dom on true merit?

Chasing Cars’ journalist Zak Adkins dives into the Triton GLS to find out.

It is mind boggling to me how much time is wasted by auto media journalists on useless repetitive info about interior ergonomics like scratchy plastics, bottle holders when the real deal is the driving capability / off road capability etc.

Owner with 15k kms driven on an MV here. They are bloody good things. Not perfect, but very, very nice machines. Go drive one yourself. If you listen to the flawed opinions of people who don't understand what they're reviewing, you'll invariably make the wrong buying decision.

Just bought one of these after driving the new hilux and dmax. Watched heaps of reviews and like this one it's frustrating to see journalists bitching about the uteness of there's always the obligatory comparison to ranger and amarok which have historically and well documented terrible reliability.

Drove a glx+ today and ride quality was good, bit of wind noise from the mirrors and felt smaller to drive than its actual size

Lol firm ride (as you mentioned a ton of times) is certainly not the case. I have one in GSR trim (same suspension), and drive it daily. It's better to drive than the PX3 Ranger I had before it and not a single one of my kids I take to school complain of motion sickness, or that it's uncomfortable. To be honest one of the oldest commented out of the blue that it was really comfy. Similar comments from adults that actually understand cars, how nice the suspension felt as a passenger. Does it jitter? Yes, when there's nothing in the back, like every, single, ute on the market when unladen. As much as I prefer a Ranger, these MV Tritons are better than you have articulated in this video....

Soft touch materials are nice, but how much soft touch do you really need in a vehicle? This is a ute not a Rolls-Royce. Most tritons will be used as part work machine, its not even a good idea to have leather and sponge everywhere.

There is soft touch on the dash and doors where necessary, a ute is also not a good choice of vehicle for family comfort, you are better off with a ford everest, pajero sport, toyota land cruiser.

Or even a corolla has better ride comfort than most utes.

The ranger and amarok are also extremely unreliable, luxurious yes, some people had to change the transfer case in a v6 ranger after 4 months of driving.

This video should be 15 second long just with a club and gibbersih as that would explain how how reliable the ranger is

Mitsubishi very very very perfect performance stability handling and comfortable driving comparison, 10 years warranty 200, 000 km above longest guarantee on the market, Mitsubishi also awards the best diesel engine MIVEC of the years.

8.6 seconds to 100? If true that is quicker than a 2L biturbo Ranger and the new Hilux mild hybrid 2.8L, both of which have more torque and more gears.

All the Utes are waaay too expensive for what they are. Probably appeal to the young male bogan but tradies are looking at these things and shaking their heads in disbelief at their cost. Yet another example of how Japanese, Korean and European car makers have lost the plot since COVID.

It used to be a budget priced valued ute!
I do like the extended wheelbase and the interior update looks good but the front end...😢
Having the MQ i was hoping for a good report on the engine but a few KW and TORQUE more isnt enough for the price increase.
Towing is still jiggly going by several reports as well.

mitsubishi sure gave it a good beating with the ugly stick every single MV i've seen so far has a bullbar i own an MR single cab petrol and i've been very happy with it the capped price servicing is very well priced and my experience with the dealer has been good (geoff king motors) makes the dealer servicing requirement for the warranty extension an easy hoop to jump through
however now that the petrol option has been removed completely i won't be replacing my trition with another one when the time comes it will be an amarok with the 2.3L ecoboost petrol
