So I am fortunate enough to have both an OLED (LG C4 just got it) and a MiniLED (Sony X95L) TV in my house. I also use reference monitors for CG in my office. So my first thing is if you cannot control ambient light in the room go MiniLED. Even If you can control the light in the room The higher peak brightness of miniLED can really make the image pop in ways OLED can't. I don't feel like one is really better than the other but more that they both have drawbacks. OLED gets you deep blacks and Less blooming since you will always have some blooming due to the optics of your eyes. But you might get black crush and you aren't going to get the brightness of the MiniLED. MiniLED can have trouble with blooming but it is less susceptible to black crush and has a much higher peak brightness. For most people, I honestly think MiniLED is the way to go. Almost all the mastering is done using LCD. OLED reference monitors are really new not to mention they are kind of small and and really dim.

As some one who has an older LG C9 and a C3, I recently purchased the 75 inch Hisense u8n for the living room and let me tell you it's a darn good tv! From a distance it really does rival OLED contrast. The brightness is insane, I had to lower it to about half! Godzilla x King Kong and Pacific Rim streamed through Fandango was a visual treat!

Now the 2024 65” U8 is $1, 100 and the 2023 C3 is $1, 600. I just bought a 2024 85” U8 for $1, 800. For reference, last year’s 83” C3 is $3, 300 on sale right now.

QUESTION: I saw a recent review of the 75" IPS-ADS version of the U8N from Hisense. It says the viewing angles still lose quality and isn't much better than the VA panel used in the other versions of the U8N. I have not seen the U8N 75" TV yet, but I own the 75" U8K. I do not like VA panels because of the poor viewing angles to the sides. I can tell you the U8K has EXCELLENT viewing angles from the sides - even when you approach 90 degrees from either side. You simply do NOT see a loss in quality the way Rtings described in their review of the 75U8N.

Actually some fair questions and the answers was also spot on... Well done.

QUESTION: Why is the U8N of 2024 inferior to the U8K of 2023 in the area of "Judder Reduction"? The U8K "Automatically Removed" ALL forms of Judder. However, the U8N does NOT remove Judder in 24p60i devices such as a Cable Box. What is really unusual is that the 2024 U6N actually DOES remove "All Judder Automatically" while the U7N and U8N do not. What in the world is Hisense thinking in 2024?

I think when we’re comparing MiniLED vs OLED it’s important to also bring overall value into the conversation. I recently picked up a 65” TCL QM8, and I’ve come to enjoy watching movies on it way way more than my LG CX 77”. The peak brightness on QM8 just really makes HDR content have that “wow” factor. Obviously OLED has come a long way since the CX, but I don’t think I could justify the price difference if I was in the market for another TV at this point. I’m nearly completely satisfied with the QM8. (I got my QM8 for around $700)

Love the unbiased takes. I have no interest in TVs, but I genuinely appreciate honesty.

I bought a 75in U8K (75in has the ads pro ips panel instead of VA) and have been very happy with it. It gets bright af and looks great.

'Liked' for covering the effects of 'all day' usage and burn-in. Thanks.

Hi Caleb.
Just so you know—there’s an ongoing issue with LG G4 TVs involving messed up HDMI ports (particularly the most important HDMI 2 port) where video is scrambled when you switch from an internal TV app to the HDMI 2 port. There’s a 6-page AVS forum thread on it with multiple users reporting the issue, and one user reports his local Best Buy has already processed 17 returns of the G4. LG has yet to even officially address the issue.

It’s a real shame as I was just about to buy that TV and all the reviewers love it…

I chose a 75 U8k over a 65 C3. I got the size and picture upgrade I wanted over my previous tv and I saved a bunch of money. I’m happy with it and to my eyes it looks excellent. I love the brightness and the colors. It also has deep blacks and I barely have seen any blooming.
