Can ketogenic diet cause kidney stones? Watch this video to find out..

Download Keto Essentials

In this video, Dr. Berg talks about the ketogenic diet and kidney disease. A ketogenic diet is not a high protein diet, it's only consuming 3-6 oz of protein with each meal. There is a condition called ketoacidosis, which is different than nutritional ketosis, and your pH does not raise to any dangerous levels. Keto can also increase uric acid, but if you consume enough vegetables, again, you will be fine.

Potassium in vegetables is very kidney protective, but high sugar and high insulin are damaging to the kidney more than anything else. Take a look at a diabetic - they usually end up with long-term kidney damage. GMO foods can also affect the kidney, so eat organic.

This is brilliant. I recently went to the ER for female problems and they completely missed the fact that my urinalysis was way off and clearly pointing to my kidney underperforming. It’s been very hard to find out what the right thing to do is with all of the false data on the internet and so many ill informed and incompetent doctors. I appreciate these videos, thank you.

First off, Im totally excited that I found you on YouTube. I have been researching keto diet and watching tons of videos, but none compare to you and yours, Dr. Eric! This video is of particular interest to me because my mom is a steady stage 4 kidney disease, and only one working. Almost 3 yrs ago she had a major surgery. She had an aortic aneurism of her colon and some blockages. Within a week of her surgery they had to do another surgery to remove her gallbladder. She has had continued problems with digestion and flip-flop intestines. I’m hoping that the supplement you mentioned in video can and will help her. Along with the keto diet. Thank you so much. We will consult her doctor before starting the supps or keto for her safety.

I went for my first physical after starting keto, and my doctor did not approve and told me that it will ruin my kidneys. Thank you for making this video so I could immediately turn to more reliable information!

Dr Berg, thank you for clearing this up! I will share this video with the Drs I work with as they have been trying to convince me that Keto is not good for me! I feel great! I am a stone maker and have not had any problems on the Keto diet. I have been on the Keto eight months now!

I Love you, you are so brilliant & you make everything perfectly understandable.. it's amazing how I have improved. Had a car accident, coma, nerve damage, neurological issues.. the works.. watched Dr Oz for years but never truly improved, until I watched you. You explained keto, and my heartburn has subsided simply by living my keto life. I don't miss sugar, My brain fog & memory have improved along with my balance and walking.. after having the keto flu of course and thinking I should quit because of feeling so sick and very tired. But I am glad I continued with it. I am no longer obsessed with sugar or bread or carbs. I'm not living and suffering with heartburn. My sadness has faded.. I don't know where I'd be if I didn't have you, I thought I was stuck with what I did to myself.. you've made me so appreciative and Happy for my body, thank you Eric.

I came upon your video today. I am a 68 year old female with type 2 diabetes & stage 3 kidney disease. I have been wanting to join a local group that is doing the keto diet but wasn't sure if it would be healthy for me to do it. I thought it might damage my kidneys more. I'm glad that isn't the case. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Dr. Berg. Your diet and advice have changed the way I think about nutrition forever. It's very difficult for me now to see "kidney failure with keto" and not think, what would dr. Berg say. Thank you for the truth - you are my hero. :)

I am on dialysis now for 6 years due to Lupus damaging my kidneys when I was in my 20's. Now I am 57. I only wish I had read about this or if it was even known at the time 30 years ago. I may have saved my kidney function. I live the keto life now for a few weeks at a time. Try to avoid the amount of carbs I consume but have cheat days with pasta and bread. I really enjoy your info and videos Dr Berg you are a wealth of information. The Life saver. Thank you from Toronto

Your videos are so informative and have quite literally SAVED MY LIFE. I had tremendous weight gain after a major loss and never even knew that attributed to the onset of it until I saw another video you posted. Anyways, prior to stumbling upon your channel, I did it all. South beach, weight watchers, meal replacement shakes 2x/day, hired a personal trainer, went Vegan then RAW Vegan (mentally I felt fantastic and my mood was noticeably improved, with energy through the roof, but the weight wouldn't budge) for 5 months and every single time, I'd lose 30-35 pounds sometimes in the first 3 weeks, but then NOTHING. I plateau, every-single-time, no matter what "diet" I was on and once I stopped I put it all back on plus a couple more. The only way I could drop any more than that would be when I literally starved myself, calorie restricting to 700 or less calories per day, destroying my metabolism. NOTHING I did, NOTHING would allow me to lose more than 30 pounds (water weight, not even fat)
I've been to multiple doctors, all of which would put me on some eating plan or pushed a diet pill at me. Many, many, days and nights of frustration leading to tears and giving up. Learning about my bodies systems, their functions and the roles they play, the different body types and how different foods fuel different "disorders" has changed everything. THANK YOU Dr. Berg for taking the time to make these videos and sharing your powerful knowledge with us. You're the first Dr. ever to NOT charge me a co-pay and actually give me answers and the proper tools to be healthy! I am now armored with information and the ability to ask my doctors the RIGHT questions which has led to finding that I have PCOS, Hypothyroidism and severe hormonal imbalance. After 7 years of all questions, no answers and short term "results" I'm on a positive path and able to be in control of my health. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
