Mlp is a show for all ages, thats why it not a perfect "kids show". Knowing that most of the mlp community is older people, they have to put some things in the show that only adults would understand.

Regarding the Sludge thing, there's another sinister thing I found about him. Of course, it's just a theory, but towards the ending of the episode, Sludge did say that he only pretended to be Spike's father to live the luxury life, but I think there was a different reason for him to fake being Spike's father. See how he left the castle as fast as he could, he probably used the "I wanted the luxury life" to get out of the situation faster.

Instead, I think the real reason was that he wanted to kidnap Spike for whatever reason. He was staying in the castle so he could find the best time to abduct him.

But hey, that's just a theory.

In the funeral scene, it can be guessed who has died. In the previous Episode, read it and weep, we see a pony with cancer in the room where rainbow dash originally stayed. He had a shock when he thought somepony was stealing he shoes. It could have been him who died which makes the funeral theory much more darker.

I know i'm late to this, but there's also Trixie's suicide attempt in "No second prances" after she lost starlight glimmer as a friend. She does the moonshot manticore mouth dive even though she knew she couldn't teleport herself.

Here’s one that you probably didn’t notice: in the last episode of the series, it shows them all when their older. When the show apple jack though she’s wearing a red bandana. The same one that Granny Smith wore. There fore Granny Smith is probably dead. Also credit to my friend she’s the one who pointed this out to me.

As for number 3, I don't think the crusaders fully understood just what was going on because they're so young. I don't think the ponies don't care about the death of another pony cuz if they didn't then why have a funeral in the first place? Furthering the possibly of them just not understanding, it's heavily implied that Applebloom's (and Applejack's n Big Mac's) parents are "no longer present" and applebloom doesn't entirely understand it from what I've gathered. It's also been speculated that Sweetiebelle and Rarity's parents aren't around anymore either so
