Anyone remember the episode where Trixie shot herself out of a rocket into a manticore's mouth? It seemed like she was trying to commit suicide for losing Starlight as a friend. She would have been eaten if Starlight didn't forgive and save her.

*Trixies Suicide Attempt*

In the episode where starlight makes a friend (trixie) and trixie insists on her helping out on her magic show, starlight realizes that trixie was just using her so twilight would get jealous so she leaves trixie. Trixie, knowing that it would be almost impossible to jump into a manticores mouth and live, still does it knowing that it would be nearly impossible without starlight helping her out. She then says “let’s be great and powerful together” in the cannon, hoping starlight would hear, and she launches herself in. But good thing starlight comes to help her!

It basically was suicide, which gives me the chills knowing a pony on a kid friendly show did that. The writers haven’t confirmed that she attempted suicide and it could very well be an accident in the writing, but who knows!

I was 51 when this show debuted. I caught the dark subtexts and the meta humor, believe me. Those things, along with the quality of the voice acting, character development, and music, were what made me a fan despite my age.

I mean...animals eat other animals. Some animals can really only eat meat or bugs to survive. So seeing Fluttershy feed animals fish isn't that jarring. I feel that even though she cares deeply for all creatures she still understands how the circle of life works.

6_ Diseases they do not know how to cure
7_ Mental disorders, for example crazy pinkie pie or the pony that barks like a dog
8_ ponies with paralysis in hind legs ( like the pony stellar eclipse and Katawa Jinx )

This is why the show has a much wider appeal than just kids. It addresses a whole host of issues and doesn't shy away from difficult situations. I love it!

The episode with the Pinkie Pie clones is also pretty dark if you think about it. The clones where basically killed.

Also, being mostly sensory deprived for a thousand years (banished to the moon/turned to stone) while remaining conscious sounds horrific.
