This is extremely technical but it’s something to keep in mind for tech chases. Most characters have aerials in this game that aerial cancel, for example fox nair, and because of it, there are times that these characters can avoid techs (if they have enough frames) and move on the ground instantly. For example, if fox is sent at an angle where he has to tech or jump, he can actually nair right before he hits the ground, and if he hits the ground within the first 3 frames of nair, he lands without teching and has no end lag so he can act immediately. This is so difficult to learn consistently so don’t expect it, the only top level player who does this is light and he benefits a lot off of it, often getting kills since the opponent approaches expecting a tech chase when he suddenly up smashes them in disadvantage. Don’t expect it, but if you get hit by it then stay alert of it.

Another way I like to bait OoS options (especially as a Lucario main) is by crossing them up with landing Nair. Since so few people respect its safety on shield, I like to shield right after Nairing their shield. Worst case scenario, the opponent can drop shield in advance, turn around, and then shield to shieldgrab since there's counterplay to everything which is why I not only mostly have it as a bait, but I also have the B-reverse Aura Sphere as a mixup.

Something else I find some people just not thinking of is punishing what they do after what they do after getting hit up. They jump, airdodge, or attack, but rather than hitting these options, sometimes its better to see what they do after them. Do they try to land after dj or do they go to ledge? Do they instantly shield after landing with an airdodge? Do they do a roll or spotdodge after whiffing the attack, or do they jab your punish? Knowing what they do not only out of hitstun, but what they do after this is important in order to get a good punish. Sometimes it’ll straight out make the punish window bigger

I got cheesed by a dedede as Ganon the other day and after he was a full stock up I thought ‘now I will try’ I then 0-deathed him and then did at 70% combo on his second stock. Unfortunately I still lost, but I was able to do that because I was watching their habits my first 2 stocks
