T-Mobile 1.2TB Priority Cap Now Applies to All Unlimited Home & Business Internet Plans

T-Mobile offers a line of very popular unlimited data plans intended for homes and businesses called T-Mobile Home Internet (TMHI), Small Business Internet and Business Internet Unlimited. These plans are popular connectivity options for stationary and mobile users because they combine unlimited high-speed data for a reasonable price.

In January 2024, T-Mobile raised the price of these plans from $50 to $60/month for new customers and also added a 1.2TB deprioritization threshold for customers who signed up after January 18th, 2024.

T-Mobile has now extended this 1.2TB deprioritization limit to all of these plans, even legacy customers who had the plan before January.

So, what does this mean, and is it a big deal?

After we officially asked T-Mobile corporate PR about the outdated Open Internet terms, they've finally been updated and now state:

" In general, T-Mobile Internet customers receive the same network prioritization as Mobile Wireless Heavy Data Users. As of May 8, 2024, T-Mobile Internet customers who exceed 1.2TB of data usage for the current billing cycle are Internet Heavy Data Users who will be prioritized last on the network."

Long live the still $20/ month, unlimited, ATT LTE Mobley. Its so down the rabbit hole, that customer service has no idea it even exits!

i am not surprised that tmobile did added 1.2tb limit. I remember using tmobile home internet for a month a while back and it was unreliable with me working remove over vpn. I had speeds issue plus high pings. With towers overloaded with mobile users, now we have additional users for home internet that chipping away the bandwidth plus tmobile also share same bandwith with MVMO carriers. its only so much water you can fill in a bucket before it overflows.

If you can get a hardwire fiber for home or business then thats always better that wireless. The quality of service will never be there with wireless internet specially for business use.

It's a sad day indeed. It's understandable to some extent, as a single tower's capacity can be overwhelmed if there are enough people pulling data from it.

Unfortunately, we all knew it was coming. Honeymoon never lasts forever

I have a few years old T-Mobile Business Hotspot Unlimited plan that had deprioritization at 50gb. I wonder if I’m still at 50gb, or now at 1.2 TB? Don’t notice much slowing.

This will affect me. Just got tmo home internet last month and this month I have a few days left but have already used a little over 1tb watching streaming services and iptv on multiple tvs etc but I’ve been at work a lot and haven’t been able to use it like I normally do and my sons been grounded from the internet so this number will go up.

Why im i reading all this i probably wont reach this Limit in 5 years. I barely use 10 gb a month. I dont stream TV and play games but i watch a lot of you tube videos.

This is interesting and hope everyone gets what they need. 73

I surprised they don't just enforce the home address rule instead.

I'm not too worried. One digital nomad content creator I subscribe to maintains his SysAdmin job and YouTube channel while travelling in his RV, and he says his and his wife's combined usage is only 300 GB of data a month. Never checked my own usage, but I reckon it's a good deal lower than that.

Left T-crapble ages ago and never looked back.

Why don't you also talk about moving from QCI 9 to 8 (before 1.2TB). This is actually a welcome upgrade - look on the bright side.

How do I determine how much data I’m using each month on my TMobile Home Internet?

Is this really a downgrade?

There are a lot of comments on various forums etc that are saying what really happened is that the first 1.2 TB is now at a higher priority than it was before. After 1.2 TB it goes down to what it's always been. When it happened a while ago for new customers only, some existing customers were unhappy saying "what about me?". Now the existing customers get the same deal. If that's true then this is actually good news.

But ... that's all hearsay and unconfirmed observations. It would be nice to know for sure.

I am at 171.01 gigabytes and 15 days left on my plan

Well that sucks! I just had 24+ hour outage at my restaurant on Spectrum Cable and I was thinking of switching over to t-Mobile. I have 2 TVs streaming about 9 hours per day. That could add up quickly.

BUT T-MOBILE DOES NOT LET YOU KEEP TRACK OF USAGE. WTF. IF THEY GIVE ME AN ISSUE, I LEAVE.

Good thing I decided not to get this. Some of these xbox games updates are over 100gb alone.
