We're taking trips to the moon as we test different combos on a 331ci small Chevy. Starting with an excellent little combo good for 7K RPM, we step it up to show you how improved airflow on a small motor equals pure RPM. Best of all, we do it all with simple parts and a small budget.

It made more than 100hp per liter, that's actually very impressive for an engine architecture from the mid 50s!

I bought a ‘62 327 block and crank today. All standard. I now know exactly how I’m going to build it. Thanks, Engine Masters!

The first engine I built was a 331 in 1981. I used a 4 bolt 350 block with a forged 327 crank and stock rods. It saw 7, 000 many times, but usually by accident. The heads were unported 1.94 valve double-hump fuelies with a comp cams 280 magnum. It seemed fast at the time but was probably not much over 300 hp. Fun for delivering pizzas though..

327's are magic. If nothing else, they atleast bring a smile to everyones face.

Have run basically the same combination with ported Victor jr 215's and ported Victor intake 11 to 1 compression and 1 7/8 headers for years in 71 chevelle, weighs 3200 runs high 10's on motor and low 10's with 150 shot. Turns 8000 rpm's all day, best little motor I have ever had and been together for 15 yrs.

All you need is a steel forged 283 crank. My 68 Z28 had the 302. It was a 327 with the 283 crank. In 1975 we didn't have the tech available today, but I got 8500 RPM, making 550 HP. Selling that car was a life mistake I would like to take back

By far the best combo ever tested on engine masters Bang for your buck horse horsepower and torque per cubic inch that combo is an absolute winner hands down no doubt about it

Ten years ago I bought a '69 Chevy C10 that barely ran, for about $500. When I took the valve covers off I found a broken pushrod, and RHS in big letters on the cylinder heads. I replaced the cam/lifters/pushrods with Comp pieces and I drove it until two years ago. I regularly shifted the 358ci at 6500rpm, but there were a few times I missed shifts and zinged it to 7500rpm. The person that built that smallblock knew what they were doing. Eventually the engine started burning too much oil(years of abuse and cam lobe metal from ten years before) so I pulled it and am now swapping in a 5.3 ls. The 350 is in my garage awaiting a rebuild to swap into my '82 Scottsdale shortbed 4x4

That is a killer combo to make that kind of hp out of a 331 cubic inch motor.
