You could say that about anything though. Like if The Beatles released Sgt. Pepper’s today, we wouldn’t be talking about it either.

It’s not just the work that matters, or the perceived quality of the work, it’s the cultural context surrounding the work when it was created and released that decides whether we will still be talking about it generations later.

Well done sir! About time someone said it. I actually read Tolkien to my kids to boar them to sleep. They only get good stories during the weekend.

Your opinion is unfounded. You based your opinion on another opinion on another opinion.

The problem is that just not how you measure books...if they come out today...like what would be today's literature if he had not come out?

Tolkien made fairy tales for adults and took them seriously and that's fantasy.

When he published The Hobbit he made a children's book and It was (and still is) a danm good children's book.

The lord of the rings took Fairy Tales and wrote them seriously as a Novel and people did not think they were good. They did not sell well. But he made a whole new genre. In the 60's people were super interested because in america they made cheap copies of the trilogy. And it was only then that LotR got popular.

So your opinion is wrong and ignorant of the history of the franchise. Lord of the Rings is Absolutely a timeless masterpiece and will be read forever.
If it weren't for the movies...
The reason we had the movies and still talk about the movies is because the books are so fucking great and timeless. People were still talking about the books many decades after they were published
So people were still talking about them.

The only criticism to Tolkiens writting is. LotR book is a bit hard to read it has a slow pace and meandering progression. Because it is written for people of his time not for today's time. Our minds are to fast paced and objective. But don't you think "if those books come out today" they'd be different? I mean obviously they'd be written differently.

I’ve nearly finished the book 📕 all 3 in one format publication.
And i have to say it’s an ok read. But because of how loyal the films are it’s hard to separate the two. And the books just don’t do anything compared the films

Couldn't agree more. I prefer Robert E. Howard to Tolkien.

Its all about your comprehension level. If youve read the silmarillion and still have this opinion you either didnt comprehend what you read or you genuinely just dont know whats good or not. U say tolkien wouldnt be bought if it came out today but yes tf it would because if it were not released when it was no one would have read deep world building fantasy like that before because the books youre saying you prefer would not exist w/o tolkien. But yes the linguistics, the prose, the scale, the poetry, the epicness of tolkien is lost on alot of people....its not your fault.
