I was Born in the United States, 1956, I am an amateur at Archaeology. I have always been fascinated in reading about ancient stories of past civilizations. Many of which dot the planet with their ruins. I have heard about the Mahabharata, Krishna, etc and find no reason that it did not exist, but I wonder why it is that people still believe it is myth?
You stated there were 18 books belonging to Mahabharata. The author of Mahabharata certainly thought that that it was must have been important enough to write down the history of Dwarka so that future generations would know of their rich history. Telling the story of its culture, rulers, wars and eventual demise.

One common denominator to the demise of most all ancient civilizations, was that it demise was met with a catastrophic Earth changing disaster of some kind, wiping most all of its inhabitants away. Leaving strands of its civilization, being washed up along the shores, to rebuild and carry on with its civilization.

Luckily for many of the prior 5 civilizations, there were those knowledgeable enough to write most of its history for future generations to read and know of their past.

Like the Smithsonian is to America, as it destroys and hides away many of the relics and secrets the ancient civilizations who occupied the continents of the America's, so is the Government and Academia community of India is hiding the secrets it finds, keeping them away from everyone wanting to know about India's past. They do this to keep the current form of running things stable, having not to answer anything and when they do it is called, .Myth, Fantasy or a conspiracy theory, when in fact it is all real.

The aforementioned entities know where the walls of the fabled city are. To me that is proof the city did exist. If Vimanas were written about in the Mahabharata, they then existed. You stated that in the Mahabharata, during the great war one of the Vimanas was shot out of the sky, i assume was witnessed to crash in the ocean not far off the coast of the former city of Dwarka.
I suspect the government of India did indeed make further underwater archaeological excavations and I would go even further to say that once it was established where the ancient city of Dwarka was, then the government of India had gotten a good radius of area to perform more searches. I would say the government of India was very interested in finding the remains of the downed Vimana talked about.

Perhaps you may want to broaden your search, in looking for any references given into the available written findings by the Archaeology department, that may give reference to other disciplines at the universities in India, like the physics and or engineering departments, who may have garnered enough interest to join in at a later time into any further underwater excavations. Perhaps a new proposal was written up and you had viewed the preliminary projection on the proposal.

Any government would go to great lengths to locate any remains of those unique weapons that were used by advanced civilizations in the prior ages of man. Hitler found some kind of advanced technologies, some of which were taken from the Mahabharata and almost won the War had the allied forces not stopped them. i believe the Government of India had found the conclusive proof that Vimana's existed.
