Should you detail a brand new car? In this video, I answer a common question: Is it necessary to detail a brand new car delivered from the dealership? Do you need to remove swirl marks, imperfections in the paint? What steps need to be taken? Should you apply a paint protection as soon as you take delivery? What instructions should you give to your dealership prior to the delivery? Find out!

I work at a dealership and there's no way I'd ever have them wash my car especially if I bought a new one.

4 years later, and this video is just perfect, and so relevant to so many. Long time subscriber to your channel, and loving your videos.
This is perfect for me, and lots in this video I hadn't considered.
About to pickup a New Ioniq5 in a few weeks, and will defiantly be using your details on what to tell them to do, and most importantly what not to do before I collect.
You've given me so much information, I'm actually going to take on a full detail myself now. Cautiously of course :)

Keep up the good work Pan. I love how you educate us all, with so much experience, and just the right level of details to take us from absolute beginners in detailing, through to confidence.

Come on people, if you've just stumbled across Pans videos, Hit that Thumbs up, and Subscribe buttons. You wont regret it!

I purchased a new car last week (but it sat on the dealer lot for a long time and definitely felt like it). I immediately started researching what’s new in car care and found your great channel. I have always clay bar/waxed my cars, but I learned so much more from your product/technique/new technology videos! I geared up and spent the weekend cleaning, de-ironing, clay barring, and sealing my car. I took a photo of it in the driveway afterward, and it was so reflective that you could see the label on the weed spray on the shelf in the garage!

I LOVE this channel—thank you/merci!

New subscriber here: You can tell when someone is truly a knowledgeable expert in the presented topic when they can talk non-stop for forty minutes with no pauses, stammers, stutters, and “um’s”…. Etc. Pan is also just about the most polished “public” speaker I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. Great content and excellent presentation. Glad I found your channel. Thanks!

3 years later you're still getting good feedback for this video. I just got a new car 2 weeks ago and I asked the dealer to not wash my car. The salesman totally understood. It still had the factory sticker on it and that paint chalk on the windshield. As far as asking them to use a "ph neutral" shampoo forget that, I don't trust dealerships. I did the exterior and interior myself and prep it for Graphene protection. Thanks to your videos I was able to that as well.

Two things: I ask them not to do the new car prep because they cause more work for me to get to the base clear coat and tire cleaning. The other thing is the way you explained this. If someone still can’t do this, then there is no hope for them. Your explanation in your videos are exceptional!!!

I have inside info on the washing crews in most dealership. They do the bare minimum and do the wash all wrong and actually damage the factory paint when they wash the cars carelessly

I took my car straight to do front ppf ! Then did a ceramic coat myself watching your video !!

I worked at a car dealership for two years during college and it was eye opening. I've detailed a ton of cars that were new from the lot in my private practice, but I never expected that the issues I had to face simply went unaddressed on the lot. I still call when my clients car is in for work (Very expensive car with soft non-metallic black paint) to make sure it doesn't go through the wash or enter the "reconditioning" department.

Lol...love the comment at the end! I too absolutely LOVE driving a clean car. There is a sense of fresh energy when entering it and driving it around. Same for a clean house. When the house is clean, I can relax.

Too true, do first detail on receipt of new car. I always do it at home in Ireland 🇮🇪

I bought my car literally last year and the paint was terrible. Now a year later in about to do a one step. I wish I knew about detailing back then. Thanks for all you do Pan and everyone on the channel.

WOW well done video Pan. I always tell the dealer PLEASE DO NOT WASH MY VEHICLE even in for an oil change. All your tips are right on and to the point. Love it.

Pan after watching this video this is the first time I disagree with you 100 per cent. I learned a lot from you about detailing your vehicle. And because of that I told my dealer not to touch my car. Like you said they don't have the time to wash the car properly. If they don't wash it properly it's better they don't wash it at all. When I got the car 🚗it was dirty and dusty. It took me about 8 hours following all the steps 🚶‍♀️on your videos 📹and in the end the results were amazing. Thanks again for your videos I greatly enjoyed and appreciate them

Yes! I did it right after getting my 2018 RAV4 and it stays cleaner and requires less maintenance washes.

Of course, that's the very first thing I do, right when I get back home.
I have everything ready waiting for a good few hours of work.
Actually I don't want any dealership to touch my car in any way.
