How Red Light Therapy benefits Retinitis Pigmentosa

This inherited disorder breaks down retinal cells and leads to night blindness, a loss of peripheral vision and can eventually lead to blindness. Researchers in 2012 examined the use of red light therapy in a mammal mode of RP, finding that 670 nm red light promoted mitochondrial integrity and function, prevented photoreceptor cell death, and prevented rods and cones death, and preserved retinal function. They even found the 670 nm red light exerted a robust retino-protective effect.
