I love my semicolon tattoo because its hidden inside a large tattoo and unless you're looking for it, you wouldn't know it's there.

I just got my first tattoo last week. It’s an apple blossom branch along my spine and up to the back of my neck. Apple blossoms represent long life and life beyond death, and I got it for my dog who passed away last year from bone cancer. Way back when I was in elementary school, one of the first assignments I remember having was “who is the apple of your eye, ” and so it was then that I drew my first picture of my dog. Since then I’ve associated her with apples and apple blossoms, and the placement of the tattoo symbolizes how even though I can’t see her anymore, she’s going to be a part of me forever and I will always carry her with me. Nowadays when I get tired when I’m working out, I like to remember how much she liked to run before the cancer formed in her leg, so it pushes me to keep going and run for her. She was an amazing dog and I’m more than happy to have such a beautiful symbol for her on my body.

I have a semicolon under my eye where a teardrop traditionally would be. I lost 4 close friends to suicide in a very short period of time, I also lost 2 other close friends to accidents. I myself have struggled with Depression and Suicide my whole life and I was going through a very tough time when I got the tattoo.

The semicolon is my favorite as I’m a writer, and a person who has dealt with depression since I was a teen. Many times I want to end it all, and see nothing but dark times. I have SH, made plans, and other really awful things. Writing has pulled me out of my darkest moments, and the semicolon reminds me that I must stay here to continue my story. When I have my daughter (my first child & I’m due in November) I can finally get my tattoo done❤
