How he managed to say something and nothing at the same time

If I understand him correctly, he’s saying if you come in to his parlor and ask him to tat up your face and neck but have no other tattoos on you, he’s not going to do it because he doesn’t think you’ve really thought about the social consequences that come with having face tattoos. He didn’t phrase it very clearly, but he’s saying he feels he has an ethical responsibility to not be the one to help you ruin your life

Biggest red flag personally is someone who says they hate basic tattoos but has one small basic tattoo

Bro basically said "y'all jumping in without thinking" and some of y'all took it personally lol.

Translation: if you ONLY get tattoos on areas that can be seen that will get you discriminated on for a job JUST because you want to be “a person with a tattoo” showing it off it’s a red flag. He’s saying they don’t treat it like it’s special or holds a place anymore, only for views. In the past most were covered but that meant without the fanfare of showing it off, it REALLY had a special place in your heart for it.

Tatoo artists are some of the biggest gate keepers I've ever met.

When I was 20 I wanted a Misfits skull tattooed over my entire right hand. I only had maybe 2 or 3 on my arms at the time and the artist refused, recommending I leave my hands and neck for last. I’m 33 now and eternally grateful.

I will say that tattoos are much more culturally acceptable now, as a hiring manager i can confirm that obvious tattoos are not a deterrent in my screening process unless they are violent in nature. Seeing a big, dark neck tattoo will make me question your background a little bit but if you interview well and have experience I am not put off by your tattoos. Older generations might feel differently but fortunately millennials are starting to take over management positions;

A neck tattoo is a requirement to be a manager at burger king

He just means in the tatted world you don’t start with tats on your neck, hands, and other extremely obvious areas before hidden areas. You just jumped the gun and disqualified most job opportunities and went straight to the extremes.

Edit: everyone arguing over what's right, your body your choice, he was raised differently and times are different now.

I get it perfectly. I have both my hands tattooed and I understand what social consequences can come from it. But I also made the decision to not care what society says, does or thinks. And if you don’t understand that and don’t realize how you will be perceived upon first impressions, then he will not be part of that life outcome for you. Made perfect sense to anyone who already has made the decision to get such tattoos

I genuinely have no idea what he's saying, just let people get tattoos

Why are tattoo artists always judgemental af

Basically getting tattoos in places that professional society deemed unacceptable to make a statement, but also is well off enough financially to not have to worry about having issues getting hired.

I wouldn’t want to have a conversation with him either.

Translation: you should save your neck and hands for last.
A lot of places won't hire people with neck/face/hand tattoos because it's such a visible spot that can't be easily covered up. They are "job stopper" tattoos. It's best to wait until you have a lot more tattoos before you make a huge decision like that.

A lot of tattoo artists won't do tattoo those areas unless you have either a substantial amount of tattoos, or they're sure / they make sure with you that it won't affect your job or living situation just because people are so judgmental.

That's basically what he means. It sucks that people are so judgmental when it comes to tattoos and visibly seen ones, and the industry is slowly changing in some parts of the world, but unfortunately people still get judged for those tattoos because they're so visible and harder to cover up.

Edit: I have nothing against tattoos and where they’re placed (obvious exceptions being racist/homophobic/etc. ones) I even have some in these placements myself. This is just what I got from this video, and my translation of what they’re saying.

Aesthetically it's like wearing socks and gloves but nothing else

This is the kind of stuff that is holding me back from getting a tattoo. I’m trying to express myself, not fit into some weird gatekeeping culture.
