I've got four so far, with two more appointments coming up. I do the same - I keep a folder of images and illustrations I like, but not of other tattoos. It's helped me come up with ideas, and assists with the collaboration with my tattoo artist as she comes up with designs that incorporate what I'm looking for but remain realistic in terms of technique. I'm still early on the tattoo journey, and I'm loving it.

I'm 64 and I got 7 "tattoos" on me...1 "real" tattoo and rest a teenager mistake from high school days using Indian ink and needle wrapped with thread.

My real one was done by actual artist in a tattoo shop just about a month ago, which covered up one mistake😅

I found the theme, Japanese(being that I am "Japanese"), and few designs I found online and screenshot to consult with the artist I've chosen.

I gave my tattoo artist 100% control and given him the "artistic freedom" to make what I found unique although in a same theme and design.

Although it's similar to the original, there are differences noticeable to make it my own.

BTW, new tattoo incorporated existing tattoo as sort of "cover-up" from chest to down my arm to @elbow.

I did print out those I found online and placed them on my arm just to see what it'll look like...I like the way it looked and that's how I came up with what I ended up getting.
