How to Remove a Stuck Screw

To all the NASA engineers watching this to find out how to disassemble their spacecraft... YOU ARE CORRECT! A longer screw driver does not in fact literally amplify torque. However it does allow you to apply more downward pressure, gumption, strength, ass, whatever you want to call it while turning your screw, thus preventing slipping and... THUS ALLOWING you to APPLY MORE TORQUE. Give it a try and then we can call it whatever you want. I made this video to help people learn an easy trick, and hopefully it helps you engineering nomenclature doctorates too.

To everyone else who is not obsesssed with the nomenclature of mechanical engineering... The main trick is to try to apply as much downward pressure as you can. This will give you a little larger window of TORQUE application (hello again NASA engineers) before that slipping/stripping happnes. If you feel like you are going to strip the screw, stop turning! Do not turn a stuck screw into a stripped screw. Thats sort of the main point here. Also, you can try tightening the screw to see if it will break free in tightening direction then try the lossen again. Good luck!!

I very much appreciate how *short*, and to the point this video is. No pointless intros or 'coming up next', almost as if it's made for people who need to remove a stuck screw. Thank you good sir!

1000 thanks to you all the way from Scotland. I have now successfully managed to remove two out of three screws using your advice. Taking a lunch break and then I shall return to defeat number 3! 😊

Your video gave me the idea on how to break the screw on a push plunger on the underside of a security door. Clearance to the concrete patio was 3.5". So used a stubby screwdriver with standard wooden shims underneath to prevent downward movement and striping. Of course WD40 after a day did help but was not sufficient without the shims to hold screwdriver tight against the screw. Thanks! 👍

Valve grinding compound applied to the screwdriver also works

I heard Tightening Screw a bit first (brakes 'bond'), then unscrew. I've tried it, if I can get it to move clockwise, it Will unscrew.

I don't know if I can apply that kind of pressure on an external speaker without damaging it. The screws are ridiculously tight considering it's just a speaker and not the wheel on a car.

Thanks, Method A did the job. Factory installed screw on Traeger grill wouldn't co-operate at first.

0:27 "Long screwdrivers amplify applied torque to the screwhead"

Torque = (radius of the screw handle) x (force).

I don't see how a longer screwdriver amplifies the torque.
