They usually have an internal retainer ring that is designed to only free up when rotated so it's hanging down and out of the way. Twisting the shaft around and seeing if it comes out easily at various angles can make it come out without a lot of force. Using a puller is also a good idea because it is pulling only on the part being removed and you can use a slide hammer to shock the retainer ring into the right position for a split second while it is being pulled out.

Legit spent the last few hours trying to free up a driveshaft, after watching this video I used a destructive ball joint splitter and it worked like a charm

I recognize that CV axle set up. Its an acura tl 3rd gen. Im having the exact same issue. In fact your video helped me through the valve cover and plenum. In addition i replaced the lower intake manifold gaskets as well.

It worked. Only three times trial and get out of here. I had more advantage than you because my chisel was flat and longer, I bought it at Lowe's warehouse. The only thing I was afraid was about the transmission seal. Thank you very much for you technical advice.

Thank you so much, I used a ball joint remover (tuning fork) to get mine out of a 2002 Toyota Avalon 1MZ.

Oh my gosh, I am having the issue as you are right now or when the video was made. You are right that a long pry bar isn't working. The axle I am trying to remove is on a 2005 ATV. Who knows how much rust is behind it. I purchased two new prybars yesterday and still nothing is budging. Thanks for the video and something different to try.

Mine was stuck so bad I had to cut it off and now the piece that I cut off is stuck in the transmission after I pulled the engine I still can't get that SOB out

You know you could use the right tool for the job. I have two brass tools that look like pickle forks. One is a wedge the other you hammer in between and it pops right out

Couldn't this damage the gearbox casing?

Now I have a broken chisel and the axle still stuck. 🤬 I’ve had many issues working on cars over the last 20 years, but this is just pissing me off. Usually a little persuading makes anything come free.

No sense is destroying your snap on screwdriver.
